I have been to far too many weddings where the final portraits taken in the day are for the bride and groom…
In my opinion, the photos of the bride & groom are the most important photos taken the whole day! These photos will be on your lock screen, your mantle, your Christmas card, etc! But, if you don’t do a first look, photos of the two of you aren’t taken until
- after ceremony
- after family photos
- after wedding party photos
At this point, most couples are over photos, and just want to be done. Sometimes it is even getting dark at this point so they missed the nice lighting! In addition, hair & makeup & clothes aren’t fresh, especially if the ceremony was windy. Often there is a strict time constraint at this point, because reception is starting soon, so photos you wanted end up getting skipped!

I will always recommend to couples that if they do a first look, they can get at least some photos taken while they are fresh & excited & smiley, save the over-it feelings for the extended family shots that won’t be on the mantle if they have to be somewhere in the day😅
