In three days, Life Is Torture will premiere at AMC Altamonte for a sold out audience.
A lot of people poured a lot of themselves into this short musical. It's been nominated for every award except Lead Actor because we didn't have one. (I think our bird, Treble, was snubbed)
This film represents the best effort I've seen from everyone involved. My only regret is that people will only be able to view it once at the showing. After viewing it completed over 20 times, I'm still seeing and hearing new things that will certainly be lost on most people.
I just wanted to publicly thank a few of the people who made this film a reality:
Tracey Jane for creating a wonderful story, and being open enough to find a "perfect" ending through collaboration. Like every film she makes, this one is jam packed full of pure, wholesome entertainment.
Vesta Millard for elevating the production design of this film so far beyond what was necessary. She was also tireless in production duties AND her role of supporting actress.
Chris Robinson for crafting a soundtrack so far beyond anything I've ever heard. The music feels like something that could be in the next $100M Disney film.
Gracie Holland for carrying this film on her grounded shoulders. Her voice is angelic and her beauty pulls you right into the screen. She worked some really long, hot days, all in costume, and never once complained
And then there was the teen ensemble. I've worked with kids before and it's always a mixed bag. But this group was the most patient, talented and pleasant group I've seen on set. They could do both a very specific choreographed bit, and also deliver a "just be chaotic and give me something big" performance that looked natural and appropriate.
Of course, there's everyone else, my camera team, gaffer, makeup, costume designers, choreographers, and sound recording teams.
I just wanted to say how proud I am of this 9 minute musical film and wish the whole world could watch it. This was a joy to shoot and edit, and I never once got tired of seeing any of it. I still don't.
