This image captures the launch of Starlink 10-40, which lifted off from SLC-40 at Cape Canaveral at 5:52am. I enjoy telling stories through my photography, and I loved the idea of framing the Falcon 9 as it arced over the lifeguard station. The silhouettes of people along the beach add a sense of scale as they watch the rocket climb into orbit.

Satellite Beach

While setting up for the SpaceX Starlink 6-110 launch, I noticed a C-130 flying approaches into Patrick Space Force Base.

At 6:04 PM, the rocket lifted off the pad. As I tracked the ascent through the viewfinder, the C-130 entered the frame. I briefly paused shooting and waited for the two to visually align before capturing a series of frames.

Although they appear extremely close in the image, they were actually more than 15 miles apart. The perceived proximity is due to lens compression at 800mm.

ISO 2500
1/2000 sec

The aircraft is an HC-130J, and is attached to the 39th Rescue Squadron based at Patrick SFB.

Lake Louisa State Park, Clermont FL

Photo was taken on the south shore of Lake Louisa, where the Cypress trees always present good photo ops. The low sun angle and low water level helped to emphasize the color of the tannin-stained sand, adding an extra richness to the image.

Lake Louisa State Park

I hike the park a few times a month and saw this guy sitting on a low branch just off the trail. Since hawks typically fly before you can get close, I took a few images from a distance. The sun was at his back and therefore didn?t allow a good image. I continued moving around him until the sun was at the best angle, moved closer (to within about 20 feet) as he just sat there, and got several shots. This one is definitely the best.
