Stringer: On Scene | Episode 2 – Dennis MedFlight: Toddler Airlifted After Dog Attack

Welcome back to Stringer: On Scene, a behind-the-scenes look at what it’s like covering breaking news as an independent stringer. This series puts you in the passenger seat through my body camera, showing the real process behind bringing accurate, timely news to the public.

In Episode 2, you’ll respond with me to a heartbreaking call in Dennis, Massachusetts, where a 1-year-old girl suffered severe facial injuries after a dog attack. Due to the extent of her injuries, paramedics requested Boston MedFlight, which landed at Ezra H. Baker Innovation School before transporting the child to an off-Cape pediatric trauma center for specialized care.

This video is presented from my point of view as I document the response, coordinate coverage, and work to provide the community with verified information while always respecting those involved.

This video contains emergency response activity but does not include graphic images of the patient. The focus is on the professionalism, coordination, and dedication of the first responders who answered the call.

Dennis Toddler Airlifted After Serious Dog Bite Injury Near West Dennis Beach | July 24, 2026

Dennis, MA – A 1-year-old girl was airlifted to an off-Cape pediatric trauma center Friday evening after suffering serious injuries in a dog bite incident.

Dennis Police and Fire Department personnel responded to a residence near West Dennis Beach just before 6:30 p.m. for a reported dog bite. Upon arrival, first responders located the young child with injuries to her face and head.

Due to the severity of her injuries, MedFlight was requested. The child was transported from the scene by ambulance to a nearby landing zone before being flown by helicopter to an off-Cape pediatric trauma center for specialized treatment.

Elderly Man Dies Following Early Morning House Fire in Falmouth; Investigation Underway | July 24, 2026

Falmouth, MA - An older adult is dead following an early morning house fire on Red Brook Road, according to the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services.

Falmouth firefighters responded to 15 Red Brook Road shortly after 6:30 a.m. Friday after a neighbor called 911 to report a fire. When crews arrived, they encountered heavy fire coming from the rear of the home and heavy smoke pushing from the front entrance.

With assistance from the Falmouth Police Department, firefighters removed one occupant from the home and immediately began lifesaving efforts. Despite those efforts, the victim, a man in his 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Firefighters quickly brought the bulk of the fire under control, but officials said the single-family home is considered a total loss.

The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation by the Falmouth Fire Department, Falmouth Police Department, Massachusetts State Police fire investigators assigned to the Office of the State Fire Marshal, and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Cape & Islands District Attorney’s Office.

Orleans police searching for missing man with dementia last seen leaving home early Sunday | July 20, 2026

Update - Orleans Police advise Bruce has been located.

Orleans, MA – The Orleans Police and Fire Departments are searching for a missing resident who was last seen leaving his home on Locust Road at approximately 4:30 a.m. Sunday.

According to police, Bruce Peters suffers from dementia and is described as a bald male with a beard, standing approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing around 170 pounds. He may be wearing tan pants and a red T-shirt.

Anyone who sees Bruce is asked to call 911 immediately and contact the Orleans Police Department.

Police are also asking residents and businesses on Locust Road to check their security and doorbell camera footage for any sign of Bruce.

Brush Fire Extinguished in Dennis Conservation Area; Items Recovered Sent to Police for Investigation | July 16, 2026

Dennis, MA – Just before 9:00 p.m. Thursday evening, Dennis firefighters responded to the Plashes Conservation Area after neighbors reported a brush fire at the end of Beach Plum Lane.

Firefighters from Engine 1 entered the conservation area on foot, carrying hand tools and a pressurized water can, where they located a brush fire measuring approximately 30 by 30 feet. Crews worked to contain the fire by turning over dirt to smother hot spots while Forestry 1 made its way into the area to assist.

Firefighters remained on scene for approximately 45 minutes, thoroughly overhauling the area to ensure the fire was fully extinguished and no hidden hot spots remained.

Officials did not specify the cause of the fire. However, firefighters advised that items discovered within the burned area would be turned over to the Dennis Police Department for further examination. The incident remains under investigation.

10:45AM UPDATE: Crews remain actively working at the scene of the large brush fire near 1910 Old Post Road.

Incident Command reports that approximately 90% of the active fire has been knocked down and contained. On-scene units giving assistance include Joint Base Cape Cod, Cotuit, Mashpee, Sandwich, West Barnstable, Hyannis, Falmouth, Barnstable Fire, Barnstable Police, and State DCR Units. Firefighters will now begin a lengthy and extensive overhaul operation to extinguish remaining hot spots and prevent the fire from rekindling, especially with continued wind concerns.

Crews are expected to remain on scene for an extended period. Please continue to avoid the area and give first responders the space they need to complete operations safely.

🚨 BREAKING: COMM Fire crews are actively battling a 8 acre brush fire in the area of 1910 Old Post Road.

Firefighters are contending with strong winds as the fire continues to spread. A Brush Breaker Task Force has been deployed to assist with suppression efforts.

The cause of the fire has not yet been released. Motorists and residents are urged to avoid the area and allow emergency crews room to operate.

Dennis Fire Calls in Hazmat Team, State Police Bomb Squad After Lithium-Ion Battery Explodes on West Dennis Beach | June 26, 2026

Dennis, MA - Just before 6:00 p.m. Friday evening, the Dennis Fire Department and Dennis Police Department responded to the very end of West Dennis Beach following reports of a lithium-ion battery explosion on the beach.

Upon arrival, firefighters located the damaged battery and initially attempted to safely submerge it in water due to the fire risk associated with lithium-ion batteries. As the incident developed, Dennis Fire requested a Tier 1 Hazardous Materials Team response, along with the Massachusetts State Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Squad, to assist with the safe handling and removal of the battery.

No injuries were reported as a result of the explosion.

Additional details surrounding the incident were not immediately available. The cause of the explosion remains under investigation. Emergency crews remained on scene for an extended period while working to safely secure and remove the battery from the beach.

WEATHER ALERT - Major Flooding Causes Travel Chaos Across Cape Cod; Sagamore Bridge Reduced to One Lane | June 23, 2026

Cape Cod, MA - Severe weather is creating hazardous travel conditions across Cape Cod this morning, with significant impacts expected for commuters and travelers throughout the region.

Heavy rainfall has resulted in roadway flooding in multiple areas across Cape Cod, with reports of water covering key travel routes. Conditions remain rapidly changing as rain continues to move through the area.

Several roadways on Cape Cod are experiencing flooding and limited passability, causing travel disruptions and delays. The Sagamore Bridge has been reduced to one lane due to flooding impacts, further contributing to traffic congestion for those entering and leaving the Cape.

Motorists are urged to use extreme caution, avoid flooded roadways, and seek alternate routes whenever possible. Drivers should never attempt to travel through standing water, as conditions beneath the surface may be unsafe and water depths can change rapidly.

Wellfleet man arraigned on child po*******hy charges following online investigation | June 19, 2026

Wellfleet, MA – A Wellfleet man was arraigned Thursday in Barnstable District Court on child po*******hy charges following an online investigation conducted by the Barnstable Police Department.

According to investigators, Ross Hannon, 43, of Wellfleet, was charged with Distribution of Material of a Child in a Sexual Act and Possession of Child Po*******hy after authorities allegedly discovered he had been collecting and sharing Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM).

The investigation began on March 24, 2026, when the Barnstable Police Department’s Investigative Services Division launched an online operation targeting individuals sharing child po*******hy. During the investigation, police say a digital device linked to a Wellfleet residence distributed more than 100 files containing CSAM to a computer located within the Barnstable Police Department Forensics Laboratory.

Working alongside the United States Secret Service New England Cyber Fraud Task Force, the United States Postal Service Office of the Inspector General, and the Wellfleet Police Department, investigators executed a court-authorized search warrant at a Wellfleet residence.

Authorities reported that Hannon was encountered at the property as he returned home from work at the Wellfleet Post Office. Numerous electronic devices and pieces of digital evidence were seized for forensic examination.

Following a forensic review of the devices, investigators allegedly located more than 200 files of Child Sexual Abuse Material, along with software believed to have been used to distribute the material during the investigation.

Based on those findings, investigators obtained an arrest warrant through Barnstable District Court.

Hannon was arraigned on June 18, 2026, and later posted $2,500 cash bail. Conditions of his release include no contact with anyone under the age of 16 and no travel outside Massachusetts without prior court approval.

The case is being prosecuted by the Cape & Islands District Attorney’s Office.
