So my Jeep driver and I pulled into the Casey's in Cottonwood Falls, KS to get some sustenance and refuel ourselves. I turn around to see Nils Brun pulling up just a rain started again. He said he was out and had enough.... but was smiling. That was the part I loved. The grass filled tire just to make it into town. The rain now coming down. The mud caked face with grit swollen eyes... and yet the smile.
"Hut ab" sir!
It is not about the destination but rather the journey in trying.

If you are not familiar with this little slice of heaven, you should be. By heaven I mean a place where you can walk in a stranger and walk out with life long friends. A place where you can be yourself and as goofy as you like.... and you will be loved no matter what. A place where you can go ride your bike, come back dirty and smelling of the prairie and your attempt to ride that last hill, and everyone gets it. A place where you can sit down at the bar with gravel legends who have conquered the sharp shards of Kansas flint rock so many times they get their own chalice.

Ran into some pretty great folks at the Specialized Bicycles takeover. The new Crux5 is going to be a killer bike I think. Kind of fun to have two Gravel Cycling Hall of Fame folks there as well!

From torrential downpours to full sun on the climb out of Kahola. I heard someone say at least there is rest on the other side of the climb.... except they headwind kept the reprieve away, and simply made more work.
