A little something homegrown is coming to the Hot Sauce Festival 🌶️🍂

I’ve been working hard to create these handmade frames and magnets using real North Carolina to***co leaves—and pairing them with my own photographs of the place we call home.

Each one is a little different, a little imperfect and completely one of a kind. Just like the stories and history behind them. 🤎

A little “what’s been happening at Golden Leaf lately” photo dump… and goodness, our studio has been busy! 🍃📸

We’ve had a little newborn boom with the sweetest new arrivals, celebrated some very special first birthdays, updated LOTS of headshots, welcomed tons of adorable dogs, photographed a beautiful bridal session, and even celebrated an anniversary couple’s love story. 🤍🐾

From brand-new beginnings and four-legged family members to birthdays, professional milestones, bridal portraits and years of marriage—this is exactly what I love about Golden Leaf. We get to photograph so many different chapters of life, all under one roof!

Me at my Pop Pop’s house, apparently already practicing my window-light poses before I even knew what window light was. 📸

I love all the little details in old photos like this — the wallpaper, the dress, the hair… all of it.

And now I’m pretty sure I STILL have this dress, which means I may have to put Madison in it and recreate this photo. 👀

We’re squeezing in one more little bit of summer before fall takes over ☀️🤎

Our Last Days of Summer Minis are happening September 19 + 20, with two different session options depending on your vibe:

🌿 Creek Minis — Saturday, September 19 | 2–4 PM
At our private farm near Oxford
Think barefoot kids, splashing, laughing, movement, and the kind of photos that actually feel like your family.

🌅 Lakeside Minis — Sunday, September 20 | 5–7 PM
At Henderson Point
Warm golden-hour light, water, soft summer colors, and a slightly more polished feel. These are perfect for families, couples, maternity, etc.

We’re keeping both days intentionally small with limited spots so everything stays easy, relaxed, and personal.

Today I got to go back to the basics. 📸🌿

I had the opportunity to teach a group of Girl Scouts about photography and nature photography — how to look for light, change your perspective, notice the little details, and create a photograph instead of simply taking one.

And somewhere in the middle of teaching them to slow down, look closer, move their feet, and try another angle, I realized how much I needed the reminder too.

When you turn something you love into a business, it can become really easy to get caught up in the business of it all.

Bookings. Emails. Editing. Marketing. Numbers. Schedules. Growth. What’s next.

Sometimes you need to pick up a camera with no client waiting on the other side and remember why you picked one up in the first place.

I fell in love with photography because it made me notice things. It gave me a reason to slow down, get creative, and find something beautiful or interesting in something everyone else might walk right past.

Today I got to watch that happen for a whole new group of young photographers. ❤️

One of the things I taught them was:

STOP → LOOK → MOVE → SHOOT → LOOK AGAIN.

Pretty good advice for photographers… and maybe business owners, too.

Sometimes growing doesn’t mean adding something new. Sometimes it means going back to the beginning, exercising your creativity, and remembering why you started.

And we’re not quite finished! 👀📷

Each of the girls is choosing a favorite photograph from our nature photography challenge to submit to me. I’m going to put their images together on the Golden Leaf website for a friendly People’s Choice photography competition!

You’ll get to see the garden completely through their eyes and vote for your favorite. 🏆🌿

No names, no faces; just their art taking center stage.

I’ll share the voting link once their photographs are in, so stay tuned. I have a feeling choosing just one is going to be hard.
