Hawaii reminded me that the world is big, alive, and constantly moving.

This year had many moments that felt overwhelming, so here’s a gentle reminder for you and me:

Breathe. Step back. Look at the bigger picture.
There is more time. More space. More life unfolding than we can see right now 🤍🌎

dinner diaries, pt 1: an evening cooking musakhan chicken 🍗✨

I saw this dish show up on my feed, and I knew I had to experience the flavors in real life. Also known as the national dish of Palestine, musakhan felt like a meaningful and festive addition to our annual friendsmas table.

I pulled inspiration from multiple creators, including and , and adapted anything I couldn’t find in my local grocery, like taboon bread. Making this dish reminded me why I love cooking: learning the stories behind flavors, tasting a bit of history, and bringing pieces of the world to one corner of the table 🤍

We are so small when facing nature.

Exploring the beauty that the world has to offer gives a sense of humility and empowerment to be a better person.

It’s a realization that our time here on this planet is short compared to the history of Earth, so why not make our life a meaningful one?

Happy Earth Day 🌎

🌸 Cherry blossoms bloom for a short two weeks in the spring starting the middle of March
🌸 This timing has led to the flower’s symbolism of spring, a time of renewal, and the fleeting nature of life.
🌸 Although the most commonly known place to admire these trees are in Japan, they grow in places all over the US too:

- Portland, Oregon: Tom McCall Waterfront Park + Japanese Garden
- Dallas, Texas: Dallas Arboretum
- San Francisco, California: Japanese Tea Garden
- Seattle, Washington: Univ. of Washington
- Washington DC: The National Mall
- Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: Fairmont Park

📍Cannon Beach, Oregon

Haystack Rock is one of the largest monoliths in the world and was created almost 15 million years ago by volcanic lava. The miles of sweeping sand coupled with the waves crashing on this 340 foot tall rock makes you admire Mother Nature in awe while feeling so small.

Known as one of America’s best beaches, Cannon Beach sits right next to Seaside, the perfect coastal town getaway. This long sandy beach is an hour and thirty mins of a scenic drive away from Portland.

📍Kaulahao Beach, Maui, Hawaii

Some 🐢 facts:

🐢 Hawaiian green sea turtles are the largest hard-shelled sea turtles in the world
🐢 They grow to be 4 feet long, weigh over 300 pounds, and can breathe underwater for up to 5 hours!
🐢 All sea turtles are endangered species in the US, which means it’s a federal offense to even touch them. Make sure to keep your distance (>10 feet) if you come across them in Hawaii ⚠️

📍Road to Hana, Maui, Hawaii
first glimpse of sun on a rainy day.

Road to Hana is a 64 mile scenic drive that has narrow roads and 617 dangerous hairpin curves. However, this destination has become one of the most popular sights to see in Maui due to the beautiful beaches and waterfalls.

This part of the island rains most of the time, so it was a pleasant surprise to see some sun ☀️

Find pockets of color in your normal routine 🌻

This is a goal I’ve set for myself this upcoming summer. In the midst of the same routine of work, school, workout, chores, bills, keeping up with current events around the world— maintaining routine is an important way to stay organized and be productive.

But I’m personally reminding myself to take a step back to do something different each day. Whether it’s cooking a new meal, catching up with a friend, watching a new show, picking up a new hobby, or going to a park for a walk— do something for yourself. For your mental health. So you can show up 100% for your routine.

During our visit to Maui, our Airbnb happened to be right down the street from this beautiful sunflower field. This field wasn’t on our lengthy list of all the places we wanted to visit, but it was just too perfect of an opportunity to miss. A quick 20 minute detour can be that pocket of color to add to your routine 🌻
