🍀Who has a stroke on St. Patrick’s Day?🍀

One year ago today… I did.

Multiple mini strokes and an ischemic stroke that affected my right frontal lobe.
A neurologist said it looked like someone set off fireworks in my brain.

I remember thinking…
I can’t move my left hand… how am I supposed to do photography? I can't lose a career that it took almost two decades to build!

For the longest time, I called it the unluckiest day of my life.

But I see it differently now.

St. Patrick’s Day isn’t unlucky for me.
It’s the luckiest day of my life.
Because I survived.
And it changed everything.

It’s the reason I no longer shoot weddings.
Those long, high-stress, all-day commitments… my body just can’t carry that anymore.

And that was a hard thing to accept.

But what I gained in return is a deeper appreciation for every single client who still chooses me.
Who trusts me with their memories.
Who gives me grace as I continue healing.

Because a year ago… I didn’t even know if I’d be able to hold a camera again.
I was living with high anxiety.
High blood pressure.
Constant stress.
Running on a pot of coffee a day.
Working a job I couldn’t clock out from.

That’s not normal.

If you are constantly overwhelmed, anxious, exhausted… something has to change. Because your body will eventually make that decision for you.
Mine did.
One year later… I’m still here. Fully functional. Still sarcastic. Still a hot mess. 😘
Still healing.
Still learning a new version of myself and putting boundaries into place.
Still forgetting names, words… and where I put things. 😅

But I’m here.
And I’m grateful. 🙌🏽

If I can save even one person from going through this…

Please hear me:

Slow down.
Take care of yourself.
Go to the doctor.

Your age doesn’t matter.
Strokes don’t just happen to the elderly.
They happen to people like me… at 42.
Don’t wait until your body forces you to stop.
Not everyone gets a second chance.

Oddly enough…

Just last week, both of my brothers, my sister-in-law, and both of my nephews were in a major wreck.

And they all walked away from it.
Just like I did from a stroke.
So maybe March isn’t unlucky after all.
Maybe it’s the luckiest month our family has.

Because we’re still here. And I truly believe
that all those prayers my sweet Mammaw prayed for us while she was still here are still working… 25 years later.

Take care of yourselves. Say No to things that overwhelm you. Rest and take naps. Unplug from the busy.
One year stronger, and I love my career even more now, because the work I do isn't stressing me out anymore. 🍀

How many of you have boxes of old family photos sitting in a closet somewhere?

You know the ones…
• baby pictures
• your parents when they were young
• old houses
• grandparents
• family holidays from the 80s and 90s

The problem is printed photos don’t last forever.
They fade, get damaged, or disappear over time.

For years, I've been asked if I offer these types of services,...good news, starting this year I am! KLP is now offering photo digitizing and restoration services here at my studio.

I can scan your printed photos and turn them into high-quality digital files so they’re preserved forever. All photos will be uploaded to a 30 day online gallery for you to download from, order products from, and share with your family so they can too!

No mailing your memories off somewhere.
Everything is done right here locally in Paris, Texas.

Photo scanning services do not include restoration. Restoration work (repairing tears, fading, scratches, or damage, colorization) is available as an additional service and priced separately.

Mason | Senior Year | Class of 2026

One thing about being a small-town photographer for almost 20 years… there’s a really good chance I photographed you as a kid, too. 🤍

Seeing Mason show up for his senior session honestly made me pause for a second. It feels like just yesterday that he was one of the little ones smiling sweetly during a fall family mini session.

Still just as sweet.
Still just as handsome.

Watching these kids grow up in front of my camera will always be one of the greatest honors of this career.

Parents — it's like we just blink and suddenly they’re seniors. 🥹
