Seems I can always depend on the trees in this area of Middle Geyser Basin to offer up interesting photo opportunities. I'll post another image showing an close-up view of the ice formations on the trop of the tallest limb. Winter in Yellowstone Photo tour 2021.

Seems each year that I return to Yellowstone a new photo opportunity presents itself and last season this little guy/gal provided just that.

We had several days where this American Pine Marten, actually two of them put on a show for us jumping from tree to tree or bouncing along in the deep snow. I'd seen a few in years past but they were moving along to quickly to be able to get the camera out.

During several of my photography tours in Yellowstone this past winter we had the opportunity to watch and photograph members of the Wapiti Lake wolf pack. Estimated to be 20 strong and thought to be the largest pack in Yellowstone.

This lone bison was being tested by about six of the pack which kept approaching it one at a time. Unusual it seemed both for the bison to be off alone like this but also for the way the wolves didn't go after it as a pack. Perhaps it was just their way of showing off to each other?

The bison had a significant but partially healed injury on it's right side from a previous encounter. Still, that day the wolves once again were no match and eventually wandered off to join the rest of the pack, which we spotted together the following morning. More pics to come.
