remnants has been in development since 2017 — the year something shifted behind the lens, when I began to see the moments in front of me instead of only capturing them.

What I keep reaching for in these images is a particular tenderness: scenes that look isolated but are quietly brimming with togetherness, with activity, with life. I make two of every frame, vertical and horizontal — the same subject holding two wildly different narratives, each one whole.

Lately I’ve been adding new work and letting other frames go, and every time I return to the sequence I come back to the same question: why. The answer, for me, is to restore and honor dignity among the overlooked and the discarded — to let small, forgotten things stand as something larger, a sense of home, here and elsewhere.

Where this is all heading: a monograph. First time I’ve said it out loud.
