📸 One Final Tip of the Cap

Sussex County Miners outfielder Edwin Mateo announced his retirement from professional baseball prior to Sunday’s season finale against the Tri-City ValleyCats.

For his final game, manager Chris Widger handed Mateo the lineup card and let him set the starting nine himself. Mateo promptly penciled his own name in at first base, a position he doesn’t normally play, for one last day on the diamond.

From the batter’s box to the field, Mateo brought his energy and personality to Skylands Stadium throughout his time with the Miners, spanning parts of three seasons.

Sussex County Miners first baseman Dean Ferrara broke the franchise single-season doubles record last night, collecting his 29th double of the season.

Ferrara wasn’t finished. He ripped another double later in the game to extend his new record to 30.

Come out to the ballpark tonight and tomorrow to see if Dean can add to the record! First pitch for both games is set for 6:35 PM ET.

Called on to pinch run in the bottom of the eighth, Haiden Walters made his opportunity count.

Walters raced home with the game-winning run on a wild pitch to earn the Sussex County Miners a walk-off victory over the Brockton Rox and a sweep of Wednesday’s doubleheader at Skylands Stadium.
