This year marks a milestone that honestly feels a little surreal.
Five years ago, we opened the doors to the Couture Black studio at Mills 58 and welcomed our first clients into the new space. Around that same time, fourteen years earlier, Couture Black the brand itself was born.
What started as an extension of my wedding photography brand, Shawn Black Photography, quickly became something entirely its own. After countless brides asked me to create bo***ir images as gifts for their future husbands, I launched Couture Black thinking it would simply be another service I offered. I was wrong.
Over the last fourteen years, Couture Black has evolved into something far greater than photography. It has become a philosophy, , built around helping people see themselves differently. Stronger. More confident. More deserving. More beautiful. More powerful.
It has been about helping women reclaim pieces of themselves they may have forgotten. Helping them see that confidence isn't a size, an age, or a milestone. It's something that already exists within themselves.
What began with bridal bo***ir has grown to include maternity, couples, and male bo***ir because every person deserves the opportunity to experience what happens when they truly see themselves through a different lens.
As the years have passed, so has my own evolution as an artist. While I will always be grateful for my roots in weddings and events, my heart lives in the studio. This is where I create. This is where I connect. This is where I get to make images that are more than photographs. They become reminders of strength, confidence, vulnerability, and self-worth.
As much as Couture Black has impacted the lives of our clients, it has changed mine as well. One of the greatest gifts this journey has given me has been the opportunity to work side-by-side every day with my partner in all things, Michelle. Bringing her into the business full-time has strengthened not only what we do for our clients, but also the vision behind the brand. Together we've been able to create an experience that goes far beyond photography and make it something truly unforgettable.
To the hundreds of , , and who have stepped in front of my camera, thank you for allowing me to show you what the rest of the world already sees and sometimes what you may not have seen in yourself. And to everyone who has supported Couture Black along the way, thank you for helping transform a small idea into something that has impacted so many lives, including my own.
These last five years in this studio have pushed me creatively in ways I never imagined possible, and I am more excited than ever for what comes next. Here's to the next chapter!
