📸 Why I Became a Photographer
People ask me all the time how I became a photographer, and honestly… I don’t think there was ever a single moment that made me fall in love with photography. Looking back, I think it has always been a part of who I am.
When I was growing up, one of my favorite things was when my grandma would do little photo shoots with us. They weren’t just quick family pictures—we’d go out, pose, model, laugh, and make a whole day out of it. It made me feel so confident and beautiful, and to this day those are some of my favorite childhood memories.
My grandma always had a beautiful camera in her hands, and my mom loved taking pictures too. They were always capturing the little moments that most people would overlook. Looking back now, I truly believe they planted a seed in me without even realizing it. I honestly think photography has always been in my blood.
As I got older, my love for photography only grew. Throughout my childhood and teenage years, photography became my favorite hobby. I’d take pictures of sunsets, flowers, nature, old buildings, and beautiful scenery—anything that caught my eye. There was just something special about freezing a moment in time that always fascinated me.
Even then, I dreamed of becoming a photographer one day. It always seemed like one of those “maybe someday” dreams.
Fast forward to my honeymoon.
My husband asked me what one of my biggest dreams in life was. Besides marrying him—which had been my dream since I was eight years old—my answer was simple.
“I want to become a photographer.”
Not long after we got home, I bought my very first camera.
I still remember how excited I was. I couldn’t wait to get outside and start taking pictures. At first, I photographed landscapes and nature because that’s what I had always loved. But it didn’t take long for me to realize something.
My heart wasn’t just in photography.
It was in photographing people.
I started asking friends and family if they would let me photograph them. For the first several months, I offered free sessions because I wanted to learn, gain experience, and become the best photographer I could be. Every session taught me something new and gave me more confidence behind the camera.
Eventually, what had been a lifelong hobby became something more.
I officially started my photography business and began photographing families. Watching parents laugh with their children, seeing siblings interact, and capturing genuine moments made me realize I had found exactly where I was meant to be.
Then I started wondering…
“What if I took this one step further?”
That’s when I decided to step into wedding photography.
I spent time learning everything I could. I took courses, practiced, studied, and prepared because I wanted to give my future couples the best experience possible. Then I finally took that leap into the wedding world.
Now, almost two years later, I can honestly say it has been one of the greatest blessings God has given me.
I’ve had the honor of watching brides walk down the aisle, photographing emotional first looks, celebrating growing families, welcoming newborns, capturing graduations, and documenting milestones that families will treasure forever.
One of my favorite parts of this job is when families come back to me again and again. Seeing couples become parents, watching little kids grow up year after year, and continuing to tell their stories means more to me than I can put into words.
People often ask me what photography means to me.
The answer has never changed.
Photography isn’t just about taking pictures.
It’s about making history.
Every wedding, every family session, every maternity session, every graduation, every newborn, every birthday—those moments become part of a family’s history.
Years from now, children and grandchildren will flip through albums and see those photographs. They’ll remember the people they love, the milestones they celebrated, and the stories that shaped their family.
Knowing that I get to preserve those memories is something I never take for granted.
