I'm a little late to congratulate Claire on her graduation! 😆 Claire and Sia braved the heat and humidity for Claire's senior portraits last summer, and it was well worth the mosquito bites!

Ithaca is a jumper. A spirited, sweet, utterly magnificent jumper. A National Champion in the Children's High Division, his owner/rider Eva competes for Mexico, but I was lucky enough to work with her and her horses last summer in NJ. Keep an eye on this dynamic duo - they're on fire!

No big deal or anything. 🇲🇽

Dayton showed up to his portrait session completely unbothered. Literally. A truck unloading shavings three feet away. A warehouse full of commotion. Total chaos around him.

He didn't move a muscle.

His session at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show was arranged as a surprise — his owner's daughter wanted to give her mom a gift she'd never forget. I think they pulled it off.

Three brothers. Same farm. Completely different personalities.

Tonka was the gentle giant of the bunch — the kind of horse that makes you feel instantly calm just standing next to him.

Simon came to his portrait session with absolutely zero notes. Completely unbothered. Completely perfect. When I tell you it took 2 people 15 minutes and multiple attempts with multiple props to get his ears up and forward, I'm not exaggerating. Look up "unbothered" in the dictionary - it's Simon.

One of the best things about my line of work are the relationships formed when I work with my clients. Whether it's our shared passion of horses, our love for the weird, random moments of owning a horse (or being owned BY our horses, I guess I should say), or just an instantaneous little friendship spark that ignites, it's one of my favorite things about photographing horses and their humans. The first time I met Nicole and Patriot I loved them instantly - so I was incredibly excited to work with them a second time. I got to spend the afternoon with Nicole, her mom, their dog, and, of course, Patriot. While we were unlucky enough to get a bit of a downpour at one point, we were gifted with a gorgeous rainbow at the end of their session.

I heard from Nicole recently that Patriot had passed away, and for whatever reason, this one hit particularly hard. Of course some of it is knowing the pain and heartache that comes with the loss of a horse, but even more than that, Patriot was just...one of a kind. An incredibly special horse, one of those seniors that acts half his age and has feelings and opinions about life. Patriot was such a special soul, and I am so incredibly grateful that I had the luck to spend some time with him and Nicole.

After hearing of his passing, I remembered these rainbow pictures - and felt they were a meaningful way to say goodbye to Patriot. Sending all the love in the world to Nicole and her family - he will be missed. 💕

Run free, Patriot. 🌈
