Previously overlooked footage revealed the Quail, Texas tornado on 3/5/2026 at 2100 hrs in its mature stage. The tornado was originally reported to the NWS after the event along with GPS coordinates, video and a road location where mud and sticks were on the road in a convergent pattern at an intersection. The NWS was seeking information on this at the time, but decided against a survey due to it remaining in an open field.

Travelled to Illinois to chase a PDS tornado environment. I am glad that forcing was too strong, which lead to multiple attempts at discrete storms being over powered, leaving many outflow boundaries. This also lead to a QLCS. Had forcing been weaker, it would have been a significant tornado outbreak. This also happened to be on the anniversary of 4/27/2011- a terrible day across Dixie alley. I ended up chasing 4 different QLCS, with the last 2 lines being associated with a mesoscale convective vortex. In Illinois the QLCS was PDS severe thunderstorm warned with a considerable damage tag and 70 mph winds. The rear inflow jet following the line was also very strong and had strong winds associated with it.

Prior to my chase today, I visited the TWISTEX memorial in El Reno and the National Weather Center in Norman.

The TWISTEX memorial serves as a reminder of why we do what we do. There’s the exciting side of chasing, the photography, the incredible community, and the awe-inspiring features of these storms. But chasing is never just about the thrill.

No matter how much we prepare, how much experience we gain, or how carefully we try to stay safe, it’s always possible to underestimate the power of Mother Nature.

Another reason we chase is to help prevent tragedies when we can. Timely reports help forecasters and warnings reach people who may be in danger. It won’t stop every disaster, but every report has the potential to save lives.

Overall it’s been a great week chasing in Texas and Oklahoma. But moments like visiting the memorial are an important reminder to respect the storms we pursue.
