My likely final chase of this season showed some insignificant yet gorgeous structure. Stayed in Alabama for this one. Mammatus clouds to some cool looking cloud bases.

Well, it’s almost that time of year for astrophotography. This season I have restored my Grandpas Celestron Nexstar 114GT. There’s 2 pieces that fell off due to age but it’s almost fully restored otherwise. I intend on using it plenty this astrophotography season.

I saw the aftermath of a possible tornado in Edmonton, Kentucky, and submitted a damage report to the NWS. I offered assistance with damage, but they said they had it handled. Thankfully there were no reported injuries in the areas I was in.

The structure from yesterday’s storms was amazing. While I did not see a tornado, it was still worth the 18 hours of driving. Apparently Edgar ONeal was on this same storm.

Chased for like 300 miles just for a severe thunderstorm warning. Robust updrafts lead to plenty of mammatus beneath the anvil of the storm. This was a highly unstable environment, with little to no directional shear. Near 6,000 J/kg MUCAPE was noted during RAP Mesoanalysis. Perfect environment for hailers and a wind bag event.

Core punched a thunderstorm that ended up getting a considerable damage tag severe thunderstorm warning.

Several large trees down in Sylacauga following this storm.

Submitted my first spotter network damage report today.

A lightning picture session turned chase. An unexpected supercell formed between Dadeville and Jackson’s Gap and travelled from there to Chambers county, before bowing out and merging with the line. Did not have to travel far for this one.

Previously overlooked footage revealed the Quail, Texas tornado on 3/5/2026 at 2100 hrs in its mature stage. The tornado was originally reported to the NWS after the event along with GPS coordinates, video and a road location where mud and sticks were on the road in a convergent pattern at an intersection. The NWS was seeking information on this at the time, but decided against a survey due to it remaining in an open field.

Travelled to Illinois to chase a PDS tornado environment. I am glad that forcing was too strong, which lead to multiple attempts at discrete storms being over powered, leaving many outflow boundaries. This also lead to a QLCS. Had forcing been weaker, it would have been a significant tornado outbreak. This also happened to be on the anniversary of 4/27/2011- a terrible day across Dixie alley. I ended up chasing 4 different QLCS, with the last 2 lines being associated with a mesoscale convective vortex. In Illinois the QLCS was PDS severe thunderstorm warned with a considerable damage tag and 70 mph winds. The rear inflow jet following the line was also very strong and had strong winds associated with it.
