A change is as good as a rest, so the saying goes. These photos feel like the last lingering bit of summer! And while I’ve loved the activity, warmth, energy of the summer, I’m very much looking forward to the coziness of the fall season.

Cooler temperatures, more natural opportunities to rest and slow down, and the holiday traditions we all hold so near. Bring on the apple picking, pumpkin patching, blooming mums on porches, and warm flavors of the fall and winter seasons! 🍁🍁🍂🍂

Stroll The Heights September Cover ✨

Knowing your neighbors feels like a lost art these days. Knowing their story, who they are. One of the Southern habits I adopted is learning to chit chat with anyone and everyone. Even if it was in the middle of a grocery aisle. Even if I was in a hurry and had a million things to do. You never know what you’ll learn and who you’ll be blessed by simply by engaging in (what feels like!) the lost art of conversation.

It was a joy to meet Ms. Ronda Addy, a Heights resident of over 40 years and retired librarian. I learned her favorite things to do, the meaning behind the landmark big rock at the end of her driveway, and her family’s history in the heights. Her story is in this month’s issue of Stroll The Heights!

The days are long, but the years are short 🥹

Then you look back at photos from last fall and see little faces that were rounder, hair that was shorter and curled at the end, a child who still asked you to “hold me”.

Changes slow enough that you didn’t hardly notice. If you’ve been telling yourself you’ll do family photos next year, I want to gently tell you: next year is a different family. Let’s photograph this one 💕

I always joke that there’s a new baby and a “dethroned” baby. It’s a tender time of both firsts and familiar milestones. The new dynamic that comes with welcoming a new family member, the new version of yourself that you become, the way love does indeed multiply. Even though you can’t imagine it beforehand!

Newborn photos after your first baby are very overlooked. Everything is busier, it’s easy to forget to book, to want to get everyone ready for photos. But you know what? They’re about so much more than just the baby.

I love black and white photos. I know some people don’t, but I think they just convey emotion and nostalgia in a way that color can’t always.

Costco has had their Christmas ribbons out for weeks. It’s been fall at Hobby Lobby for a month… so I’m right on time, right?! 😂😂

This is always the time of year where I feel like we yearn for the coziness and traditions of the holiday season (or maybe we’re just tired of the heat).
