i had the ability to capture history. traveling with the cross country team not only allowed me to take my 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th plane rides in my entire life, but it showed me how absolutely incredible the human body is when pushed to the limit. i got to sit and have meals with people from all around the world, and learn about their cultures and their experiences. i got asked by strangers if i was a runner on the team, which made me feel really good about myself (i am very much a walker on the treadmill). i found out secret societies are very much a thing in virginia. i was called out in front of the entire team because coach smith got lost, and i didn’t tell him that “i don’t think i’ve seen this black fence before”, which made us drive 30 minutes away from the hotel. i was the farthest i have ever been away from home. i learned so much about myself, what cross country truly is, and how amazing it is to watch a team celebrate such major accomplishments.
