There are few places in Northern California that offer the photographic variety of Point Reyes.

Within a relatively small area you’ll find dramatic coastal cliffs, sweeping ocean views, historic ranchlands, winding roads lined with Monterey cypress, and some of the most beautiful evening light in the Bay Area.

This Sunday I’ll be leading a small-group photography workshop through Point Reyes, helping participants learn how to see and photograph the landscape more effectively. We’ll discuss composition, light, exposure, and how to create images that communicate a genuine sense of place.

One of the reasons I return to Point Reyes again and again is that it rewards careful observation. The obvious photograph is often just the beginning. The more time you spend there, the more you discover.

After spending three weeks out-of-town, I’m especially looking forward to returning to one of my favorite landscapes here at home.

The Sonoma Coast is never quite the same from one day to the next.

One day may bring clear views stretching for miles. The next may offer drifting fog, dramatic skies, and soft light that transforms the landscape. Learning to work with changing conditions is one of the most valuable skills a landscape photographer can develop.

This Saturday I’ll be leading my Sonoma Coast in Summer Photography Workshop, exploring some of the most scenic stretches of coastline in Northern California. Along the way we’ll discuss composition, exposure, reading the light, and finding compelling images regardless of the weather.

This is a picture from last year's workshop.

One of the things I enjoy most about teaching is helping photographers move beyond simply recording a scene and begin creating photographs that convey a true sense of place.

If you’d like to spend a day photographing one of California’s most beautiful coastlines while improving your photography skills, I’d love to have you join us.

I have been out of town for the past three weeks, but I’m finally back home and ready to get behind the camera here in Northern California again.

This evening I’ll be leading a free Petaluma Photowalk. It’s a relaxed opportunity to explore downtown Petaluma, photograph the city during the evening light, and meet fellow photographers.

Whether you’re using a DSLR, mirrorless camera, or smartphone, all experience levels are welcome.

I also have two small-group workshops coming up this weekend:

• Sonoma Coast in Summer — Saturday
• Point Reyes Photography Workshop — Sunday

Details and registration are available on my website at this link: https://lancekuehne.com/collections/photography-workshops-california

I hope to see you out photographing soon.

Mt. Tam this time of year doesn’t sit still.

Fog moves in and out, light shifts fast, and the landscape changes by the minute. If you want to get better at seeing and reacting to that, this is where it happens.

This Sunday, May 10, we’ll move from forest to ridgeline, working with whatever conditions show up and turning them into strong images.

If you’ve ever struggled with what to shoot when things aren’t “perfect,” this will help.

Wine Country is at its best right now.

Spring greens are still here, the hills are alive, and the evening light is doing exactly what you want it to do—long shadows, soft contrast, and clean compositions.

This Saturday, May 9, I’m leading a small-group workshop through some of my favorite backroads in Sonoma and Napa. We’ll focus on composition, working with light, and simplifying what you see into strong photographs.

No long hikes. No guesswork. Just good locations and time to work them.

Yosemite Valley — May 1–3

I’ll be leading a small group workshop in Yosemite next week.

Spring is one of the best times to be there—waterfalls, changing weather, and light that shifts throughout the day.

We’ll spend three days in the field, working with those conditions and focusing on composition, timing, and adapting to what’s in front of us.

Small group — limited to 5 photographers.

Northwest Sonoma Coast — April 25

Next up is a workshop along the Sonoma Coast this coming weekend.

Rugged shoreline, shifting light, and constantly changing conditions.

We’ll be working in the field through the afternoon and into evening, focusing on composition and timing.

Just a few spots left.
