āØ A Little Behind-the-Scenes Peek at My Editing Processā¦

If youāre wondering, āDid I miss my gallery email?ā
Nope. š
I donāt send gallery links by email. I text every single gallery link personally, so if you havenāt received a text from me, you havenāt missed anything. I promise. Your gallery isnāt hiding in spam, and the internet hasnāt swallowed it whole.
The quickest way for me to get your photos edited is toā¦ wellā¦ keep editing them. š
Every āDid I miss my email?ā text means I have to stop what Iām doing to answer, and Iād much rather spend that time making your gallery beautiful.
So hang tight! Youāll absolutely know when itās ready because your phone will buzz with a text from me.
Alsoā¦ just because you see me post a few things on my personal Facebook doesnāt mean Iām not working.
Accountants donāt account 24 hours a day. Cashiers donāt cashier 24 hours a day. Teachers donāt teach 24 hours a day.
And photographers donāt edit 24 hours a day either.
We have families, kids, animals, gardens, laundry, dishes, weddings to set up, grass to mow, goats to chaseā¦ and every once in a while, we even sit on the porch for a few minutes and remember weāre actual humans. š
Hereās what most people donāt seeā¦
A one-hour session isnāt just a one-hour session. By the time I prep, photograph, back up files, cull thousands of images, hand edit, upload, watermark, export, and deliver your gallery, Iām usually investing another 3 to 4 hours behind the scenes.
A wedding?
Yāallā¦ thatās a whole different beast.
Itās sorting through roughly 5,000 images, narrowing them down to the very best 500 to 700, and hand editing every single one. Thatās not an afternoon project. Thatās weeks of work.
And believe it or notā¦ taking breaks actually makes me a better editor.
If I stare at the same wedding for 14 hours straight, my eyes get tired, my brain gets tired, and I stop noticing the tiny details that make your gallery beautiful. Walking away for a while and coming back with fresh eyes is part of my workflow because you deserve my best work, not my exhausted work.
And hereās the part that most people donāt think aboutā¦
While Iām editing your gallery, Iām also out photographing 6-10 other sessions that same week, plus consultations, venue tours, weddings, and running an entire business.
So yes, your family session may take me 3 to 4 hours of editing from start to finishā¦
But those 3 to 4 hours arenāt magically available all at once.
Theyāre squeezed in between photographing new sessions, answering client messages, meeting couples, managing my venue, and, believe it or not, occasionally eating dinner and sleeping. š
My editing queue works just like any other professionalās schedule. Sessions are edited in the order theyāre photographed (with weddings and deadlines worked into that schedule as needed).
So even if your gallery āonlyā takes me four hours to edit, Iām not sitting at my computer knocking out six galleries a day. During those same work hours, Iām often behind the camera creating brand new galleries that also need their turn in line.
Photography is one of those careers where todayās work creates tomorrowās workload. Every session I photograph today becomes several more hours of editing waiting for me tomorrow.
Thatās why patience means so much to photographers. It allows us to give every client the same care and attention instead of rushing through galleries just to check another one off the list.
Iād much rather have you wait a little longer and absolutely love your gallery than deliver it quickly and wish Iād spent more time perfecting it.
Weāre living in a world of instant gratification. Our phones take a picture and it appears instantly, so itās easy to think professional photography works the same way.
It doesnāt.
Professional photography has never been about pushing a button. Itās about creating artwork. And good artwork takes time.
So if you see me watering flowers, laughing with Bean, chasing Bunn around the pasture, or posting something funny in the middle of the dayā¦ donāt worry. Your gallery hasnāt been forgotten.
Itās simply making its way through my magical little workflow, one image at a time. ā¤ļø
