Last fall, I met Simba and his family at a local pumpkin farm for their session.

We had the cornfields, the beginning of fall, and then I spotted these little wagons along the field. Simba is a senior gentleman, so naturally, walking when there was perfectly good transportation available seemed unnecessary. We tucked him into one, and I’m not sure the wagon has ever had a more distinguished passenger.

A lot can change in a year. Simba and his sister Koya recently welcomed a new baby sister to the family, and later this month I get to photograph them again—this time to update their family portrait with their newest little addition.

One of my favorite things about photographing dogs over the years is getting to come back and document the next chapter, too.

It’s back-to-school season. And no, I don’t see why the human kids should get all the school photos.

Fresh haircut? Optional.
New backpack? Unnecessary.
Sitting nicely and looking at the camera? We’ll see how it goes.

But a ridiculously cute photo to commemorate another year with your dog? Absolutely. Because some of us have kids with four legs, questionable listening skills and absolutely no plans of ever moving out.

Now the important question: What would your dog’s school superlative be?

The summer heat starts to fade, cooler walks are back, patios are still calling, and the first hints of fall are beginning to show up. And Milwaukee got the memo, because September’s calendar is packed with reasons to get out and do something fun with your dog.

One of the questions I get asked most during planning calls is: "Where will we have our session?"

My answer? Wherever your dog's story belongs.

Every location is chosen with intention. We think about your dog's comfort, their personality, and the feeling you want every time you walk past the finished artwork.

Sometimes that's a quiet nature preserve.
Sometimes it's downtown Milwaukee.
Sometimes it's the beach.

And sometimes...it's a vintage gas station.

There isn't one perfect location. There's only the location that's perfect for your dog.
