J.B. Rail Photog I enjoys taking photos/videos of trains and sharing other interesting content. It really all began in early 2016. Fast forward 30 years and here I am.

I discovered a local Facebook group called Louisville Railfanning. I had always been a railfan but actually being able to be engaged with local railfans was even more awesome. I always thought trains were amazing since I was 3 or 4 years old watching trains as they passed on the CSX CC Line through Corbin, KY, and Lily, KY, when they still had cabooses. I already had a camera and a couple lenses a

nd occasionally would take pictures with my iPhone camera. Then I discovered spots locally where I could shoot (I already loved photography anyways) and then I discovered spots outside of Louisville, KY, thanks to others hints and getting to know people in this hobby. I started this page around March or April of 2017 and have built it to almost 800 likes. I hope to continue to be able to provide unique shots in a variety of neat locations and inspire up and coming railfans.

BNSF 9400, the first EMD SD70MAC, is available for you to operate in our Take The Throttle experience this year during Diesel Days the second weekend of August. It will be assigned to the Mainline TTT all day on Sunday the 9th. The website may show TBD until it gets refreshed.

I’m testing out a tool called Trackside Hotspots 2.0—a single-screen map designed for railfans and trackside photographers.
The goal is to make a nationwide tool for traveling spotters, combining:
🗺️ OpenRailwayMap track layouts
📻 Scanner frequencies & spot tips (parking, traffic notes)
☕ Quick local spots for food/coffee during long waits
I put together a small local sample to test the setup (see screenshot below).
Quick question for you guys: Is a tool like this something you’d actually use when traveling to new lines or spots? What else would you want to see on it?

Signals along the Brightline trackage in Christmas, FL. A second set are at every point along this line with uncertain fate they'll ever be operational with Brightline in the red.

While traveling along SR 528 through Christmas, Florida, back to Cocoa Beach I noticed the Brightline railway line. Seeing that the signals on one side were turned sideways, I did a little research and discovered the right-of-way was actually built to accommodate a second track in the future.

In 1971, the Illinois Central began replacing its iconic 1926 Pullman-built electric commuter cars with a new generation of bi-level coaches built by the St. Louis Car Company. Nicknamed the "Highliners," these striking double-deck cars offered greater capacity for the growing number of commuters traveling between Chicago and its south suburbs. They served generations of riders and became a familiar sight on what is now Metra Electric.

See the story of the Pullman-built electric cars during Railroad Days at Pullman National Historical Park, July 25-26. Visitors will have the opportunity to step inside 1926 Pullman-built Illinois Central electric cars and experience the railroad that transformed Chicago and its south suburbs.
