Met Marc from 3D Adventure Printing at the JustGoXplore Expo this year. He makes topographic 3D-printed models of trails and mountain routes- elevation lines, the actual route highlighted, mileage and elevation engraved right into the base. Rubicon, Imogene Pass, Hell's Revenge- all genuinely well-made pieces, not the flimsy stuff you'd expect at a price under $75.

I signed up as an affiliate because I actually think these are worth having, not because someone paid me to say so. And I've already put a bug in Marc's ear about doing Mid-Atlantic stuff- Dolly Sods, the PA Grand Canyon, Monongahela. If that happens, you'll hear about it here first.

Camped in the middle of the Susquehannock Trail Performance Rally this year — didn't go as planned. Storm wiped out our first night, then a downed tree blocked our route to Saturday's stages and we had to winch it out ourselves. Still made it to Galeton, Wilson, and the Waste Management Jump — one of the biggest jumps on the ARA calendar.

West Virginia just opened its first dedicated overland campground — and I drove 400 miles to be there for the grand opening.

Waypoint Zero Overland Outpost in Calhoun County isn't just a place to sleep. It's a community that genuinely wants overlanders there. Homemade soup on Friday night. Pancakes Saturday morning. Our rigs in the local parade while the announcer told the crowd what a big deal it was to have us in town.

Jerry Bain of Almost Heaven Expeditions helped build this thing, and when he told us that everyone who came to the opening is now family — that we always have a home in WV — he meant it.
