Above Ground

This image is entitled “Above Ground”. It is one of the images in the theme “Grounded”, and with this theme, I focused on the ground beneath our feet, rather than the tall trees above.

Walking though the forest we can see that there are so many things just afoot. In this image, the seed pod is the focus of our interest, and it is only one of the different organic items found on its floor. Because we only see the ground from atop, I chose to take a look from the angle of small animals moving along its floor. We can see, explore and experience so much, and better understand this habit from this new position.

Seed Pod Time Cycle

Self discovery has cycles, and there are many of them throughout one’s life. Time will pass before reaching full self awareness, as one cycle moves from and develops into another. The you of your past is not the you of today, and the you of today will not be the you of tomorrow. You will move on until you realize your true nature.
Likewise, art that connects with the self also has a cycle of its own. One’s taste in art changes and grows as the self changes and matures. A piece of art that connected, and was appealing at one time in your past, may not connect, and may not be appealing now.
The symbolism in my images may not be understood, and that maybe because of the cycle the viewer is in. Upon a deeper examination of the connections between objects and the self, one can begin to grow into a better appreciation.
The symbolism of the seed completing its cycles from the pod is that of the soul completing its cycle in the body. The pod was its home, a temporary place to dwell, as the body, a temporary home for the soul. Over time the pod gives the seed what it needs, as the body gives what is needed for the soul.
Follow the clock-wise movement of the seed to six o’clock, where it has now been released from its housing, as the soul, one day, will be released from its body; laying there bare, exposed, and helpless. At that time comes the realization of the true nature of one’s self, one’s soul.

In Elegant Decay I

In Elegant Decay I __ the title of this image __ , is another one of the images in the series entitled: An Outer Expression of Inner Growth.

As stated before, my subjects are symbolic of the human condition, and this one is no different. Elegance is not just in the young, the new, the perfect, it can also appear in the old, the imperfect and in a state of decay; as in this image.
When we see something that is pleasing to our eyes, in its state of perfection, that does not necessitate that it must lose what was pleasing to us because of age or decay. The appeal could carry over, even with the passage of time.
Do you not see that in the people you love even as they age?
