What do you think is the fastest movement shown in these photos?! 💨💨

For a little album on ‘Speed,” I tried to catch a mix of birds with both obvious and less obvious ties to speed. The peregrine falcon is featured, but so are ducks and a pigeon, some of the fastest birds in terms of propelled flight.

What are other speedy things happening in the bird world besides flying velocity? Hummingbird wings! Woodpecker pecks!

It was fun to get a great look at the chickadees from my childhood

Black-capped chickadees are ever so slightly different from the common chickadee species in Philly so hearing the woods full of the two note black-capped song was very nostalgic

A key to my enjoyment of wildlife photography is taking what comes to me. I went out thinking of trying for a short-eared owl photo and wanted to fall back on the motivational photo theme of the month ‘multiple subjects’ in case I didn’t have any luck.

Instead, this was my favorite image of the day by far. The black and white single tree, single northern harrier, and ominous cloud structure is different than what I usually end up with and I love it for that reason!
