I Didn’t Know I Was Capturing a Goodbye

I didn’t know I was documenting a memory that would one day become irreplaceable.

My father, my sisters, and my niece together in a photograph I took when she was little.

At the time, it was simply a family photo.

Today, it means so much more.

This is why photographs matter to me.

Because sometimes, we don’t realize we’re creating the memories we’ll one day hold onto the most.

One of my last photo- Father and daughter

I didn’t realize how much grief would affect my relationship with photography. Losing my father changed something in me. Photography had always been a way for me to tell stories, but suddenly, photographs felt deeply personal.

The Photos We Don’t Know We’ll Need

Summer 2022.

This was the last photo I took of my grandmother and me together.

At the time, it was simply a family photo. I didn’t know it would become a photograph I would treasure so deeply.

Photographs have a way of becoming more meaningful with time. They allow us to hold onto people, memories, and moments that we can never recreate.

This photo reminds me why family photography means so much to me.
