The biggest compliment as a photographer?

When families keep coming back through every season of life. 🥹

Newborns, maternity sessions, family photos, growing babies, growing personalities…all of it. And this session at one of my favorite green locations in Glendale was full of movement, chaos, giggles, and the sweetest little moments in between.

11 years ago when we moved to Arizona, my kids were hired to perform at Arizona Broadway Theater for their production of "The Christmas Carol." And that's where they met this girl, Mikayla.

Since then, I've been photographing Mikayla with headshots and now this time, it's different. This time, there's someone else in Mikayla's life and she trusted me to photograph their engagement photos.

They met in New York at acting school and have been inseparable ever since!

The wildest thing about being a photographer is seeing people grow so much, knowing this girl as a kid and now a full blown young adult - and the time, it feels like it just happened in the blink of an eye. But that's life and its beautiful.

There is one thing I hear over and over from my Phoenix clients when we start planning photos… they want that soft green, mountain feel instead of the desert tones.

The two of them met in 2023 while teaching English abroad. After a work event, they became completely inseparable, but there was this underlying reality they couldn’t ignore. Bethany is from the U.S., and Shaun is from the U.K. They had one year before their contracts ended and life would send them back to opposite sides of the world.

Before Bethany had to return home, the two of them eloped in Japan on April 18, 2024. It wasn’t the big celebration most people picture. There wasn’t a ceremony filled with family or a dance floor or all the little details, but it was intentional. It was them deciding, “we’re doing this, no matter what it takes.”

Their wedding at The Teapot was the celebration they didn’t get the first time.

I photographed his older sister's and now it was his turn. I love meeting the siblings and seeing it their turn to shine and their year!

This is just one of those photos that looking back years and years down the road, her little one, grown up, will see the joy that she brought to her mother. She may take it for granted for a little while, but I could see this one being a favorite when she is older and truly appreciates her mother.

Sometimes, the photos aren't all about "saying cheese", it's for moments like this. The smile and joy on mom's face as she looks at her daughter.

This is my second round of / with this couple. The first time, it was just them as a couple with little man in mommy's belly. I cannot believe how much fun we had. Truly - we captured a lot of sweetness and it was so good to seem them again!
