Somewhere between back to school and Thanksgiving, fall is going to feel like it lasted about 15 minutes.

And those golden hour evenings when the Arizona heat finally breaks and the light does that thing? That window is short. Like, really short.

Okay so let's talk about something I genuinely think about a lot.

Your photos need to exist in more than one place.

Not because I'm trying to scare you. But because I've heard enough stories to know that losing photos is more common than people expect.

Hard drives crash. SSDs fail. It happens without warning and it is not always recoverable.

Cloud backups are better than nothing but they are not guaranteed. Companies change, accounts get locked, things happen.

And then printed photos, which feel the most permanent, can be damaged too. Fire. Water damage from a leak or a flood. Things get lost in moves.

None of this is me saying 'panic.' It's me saying - if your photos only exist in one of these places, that's the gap.

There's something that happens when you actually print your photos.

They stop being files and start being things.

Things your kids can hold. Things you can hang on the wall. Things that are just part of your house and your everyday life.

I've been really intentional about this lately in my own home - swapping out the old baby photos, updating the wall, adding an album we can actually flip through together.

And it's made me want to make sure every family I work with walks away with that same thing.

Not just a gallery link. Something real.

That's a big part of why I redesigned how I work with clients this year. More on that soon.

Some sessions just have a feeling to them.

You know the ones. Where the light hits differently, where the family just soaks in their time together with their new addition.

These sessions are just something special. I love that they get to be in the comfort of your home. The place where your family started, or continues to grow. With the toys the older siblings play with in the background, and the nursery you spent so much time designing.

Fall is coming faster than it feels like right now in the middle of summer.

And I know from experience (and from talking to a lot of moms) that the fall scramble is real.

School starting. Schedules shifting. Suddenly it's October and you're trying to figure out holiday cards and you haven't booked anything yet and everyone you want to work with is already full.

I don't want that for you.

My fall calendar is opening up in August and I'm building a wait list now so that when it drops, you're already in line.

Get it on the calendar. Take it off your plate. And then just look forward to it.

Hot take: the best time to book fall photos is when it still feels too early.

Because by the time it feels like the right time, the spots are gone. Every year I watch it happen. Families reach out in September hoping to book October and the calendar is already full.

I'm not saying this to create panic. I'm saying it because I genuinely want to be your photographer this fall and I can only take so many families.

I'm sitting at my desk right now and I'm just looking around at all the photos on the wall.

My daughter's face. My son. A few from a session that I genuinely love.

And I just... smile. Automatically. Without even thinking about it.

That's the thing about printed photos that's hard to explain until you experience it. It's not about having a perfect gallery wall or matching frames. It's just about having the people you love somewhere you can actually see them.

Not buried in a camera roll. Not three scrolls deep in a Google Photos folder.

We drove up to Pinetop last week and my son threw up in the car about halfway there.

Which is just... such a perfect summary of traveling with kids.

We had packed up basically the entire house. Snacks, gear, the dogs, all of it. And there we were, pulled over on the side of the road, doing what parents do.

I definitely had a moment of 'was this worth it.'

And then we got there.

And it was maybe 75 degrees. And we went on a walk before it even got warm out. And the kids ran around outside basically all day. And the dogs were losing their minds in the best way.

Worth it. Obviously worth it.

Some of my favorite memories are the ones that started out a little rough. Those are usually the ones that end up being the best stories.
