Half of small businesses close shop within five years and mine will be one of them.
I’ve listened to so many podcasts, read so many books, poured so much time and energy into delivering an exceptional client experience.
I’ve posted to social, blogged, delivered free content, shown up for my email subscribers.
I’ve worked for free, traded my services, refunded entire sessions that went sideways at no fault of mine.
I’ve sent client gifts, checked in with families, delivered food after they’ve had babies, and sent holiday cards.
But I was never as busy as I wanted to be. Why? Who knows. I never got “noticed” by someone influential, I wouldn’t make reels, and I refused to change my photography to whatever was on trend just to make other people happy.
I’m a little sad that it’s ending, but I don’t regret the people I’ve met or the lessons I’ve learned.
I’ve learned that I like going to work Monday through Friday. I like getting a steady paycheck. I like seeing other people on a regular basis.
I’ve learned that it’s important to me to be doing a job where I feel like I’m making a difference.
And I’ve learned that my time is far more valuable than others are willing to pay me.
Time is our most valuable resource - use it wisely.
