The "Great Train Wreck" was a major art installation and fiery performance spectacle at Burning Man 2018. Day or night, this piece, created by artists Debby Brower and the Collaborative Artisan Reno-Sacramento (CARS), was a show stopper.

It featured two full-scale wooden steam-engine trains built to recreate historic 20th-century head-on train crashes.

It was quite the spectacle when the crash was created (the explosion was a few seconds too soon so it missed the mark from where I was sitting but of course it was still pretty amazing!).

Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument in New Mexico features unique, cone-shaped rock formations (hoodoos) created by volcanic eruptions millions of years ago, protected by harder "caprocks". Definitely have some unfinished business here!

If you are cruising out of Ft Lauderdale, Florida can I recommend flying in a day early and staying on the Strip? Lots of eateries and drinkeries, too. And the beach is right there! Time permitting, take the water taxi around the intracoastal and take in the sights.

Interesting! I just received a request to work a school reunion….. in Texas! While I was thrilled for the ask, I replied that it was probably a little too far of a commute.

Every now and then I am reminded that this little page that I started about 15 years ago (and that I still create content for, multiple times per week) is being seen.

What a treat! Every space felt unique and treasures around every corner. Built in 1946, the Lafayette in San Diego attracted celebs and quickly became a Hollywood hideaway for stars like Frank Sinatra, Ava Gardner, and Bob Hope. Hawaii’s Kīlauea volcano recently set an all-time record for the most cyclical lava-fountaining episodes in a single eruption, with the 48th eruptive phase, surpassing the previous record of fountaining episodes set during the Puʻuʻōʻō eruption (1983–1986). The record now stands at 50 episodes as this event is ongoing.

A volcano is an opening on the surface of a planet or moon that allows material warmer than its surroundings to escape from its interior. When this material escapes, it causes an eruption. An eruption can be explosive, sending material high into the sky. Or it can be calmer, with gentle flows of material, like the image below, taken in Iceland.
