These 5 lighting tweaks are the reason my maternity portraits look like magazine covers… and yours can too.
If you skip even one of these, you’re leaving magic on the table.👇🏻

✅ Feather your key light: Aim it just past your subject for soft, dreamy lighting—and flattering skin tone. Your key light will be your main light here.

✅ Reflect gently: A reflector beneath the belly or chin brings forward glow and detail. It also fills the shadows underneath the eyes and removes the dark circles that can sometimes be created by the main light. It also can create a beautiful catch light in the iris!

✅ Mind the shadow: Slight shadow under the bump adds shape—don’t eliminate it entirely. Also, you want to be mindful about the shadow under the chin too! You don’t want to remove that completely as it does shape the jawline and create a pretty shape to the face.

✅ Test, then test again: A one-inch tweak on your light stand can make or break the mood. Make sure that the light is falling correctly on your subject. Play around until you get it just right.

✅ Look through the lens: Always check your viewfinder or histogram: what looks good to your eye may need adjustment on screen.
