Documenting the dark side of nature while the world sleeps.

While I do love all of these sounds, my nervous system really loves when the woods are completely quiet. Add in the low light darkness and I feel like a completely different person walking around. Doesn't matter if I've had a long day, and little sleep, I perk right up in the silent dark. Early spring time is the best for that, once the toads come out in may, and the katydids in late June, it only gets louder.

And no, you never really get used to foxes screaming! And just when you think you do, you hear a completely different, insane sounding call.

I overlayed some of the fox sounds with other fox footage. The really wild sounding one I couldnt see them, only hear them. I also borrowed the owl sound from Instagram, my recording was too low to really hear well. All others are in real time.

Last year was a very good year for molting bug footage. Before that, I never saw any, but there were lots of katydids and grasshoppers last summer. This one ended up getting stuck, with their antenna not easily coming out. So I gave a little helping hand.

Still waiting to find a large fishing spider molt!
