Discovering a new birding spot is always such a thrill for me! I came across this mute swan during a recent scouting trip and was pretty shocked to see it feeding so politely alongside a hooded merganser. Swimming around in a tiny marsh pond no bigger than what seemed like an oversized puddle, it was almost comical to see such a large bird in such a small body of water! As beautiful as these birds are, mute swans are not native to North America and can often be quite aggressive toward native waterfowl. Guess it decided the merganser was a decent enough little pond pal!

End of a season. As the days get cooler and shorter, the boats get pulled from the harbor, and the yacht club pulls their gear from the water. I walk by this wall daily with my daughter and pup and knew I had to snap this photo at least once in some nice morning light. Classic New England red makes for a nice background to these buoys and ropes that have worked hard all season long to keep things anchored throughout the season.

Late evening bald eagle with a little dash of fall color. This eagle was getting hazed by some crows and ended up perched in a tree on the edge of our property, right about eye level. It was cloudy, and the light was super low, but managed to snag my camera and rattle off a couple of shots. Been watching this bird for weeks now and was pumped for the opportunity I had to capture it - thinking home is somewhere nearby with how often I see it!

Fun bit of mirroring with this one! Layers of the landscape came into focus as a cloud of morning fog moved its way across Long Pond in Acadia. Thought these trees reflecting in the water were quite beautiful and kept thinking to myself that the dock jutting out from the point would be pretty neat to sit on.

It's been a while since I posted last, and in that time, quite a bit has changed. From having a beautiful baby girl back in May, to selling our home in Colorado and moving 2,000 miles back to the east coast to be closer to family, things have been busy, exciting, and at times uncertain. We've had a chance to settle in a bit to our new landing spot and catch our breath while we regroup for this next chapter in our lives and I've finally found the time and passion to get out and get shooting again. To say I'm lucky is a gross understatement - in my eyes, I'm the most fortunate fella in the world. I get to live in a place that is absolutely brimming with natural beauty and I'm excited to share some of the places, creatures, and things I get to experience in my new day-to-day with the world. As the sun sets on our previous chapter, it is followed by an evermore beautiful sunrise. Here's to new beginnings, new experiences, new adventures, and the next chapter in a beautiful life. Sure does feel good to be home.

Back in the summer of 2020, Colorado's largest recorded wildfire, the Cameron Peak Fire, burned through 200,000+ acres of forest. Not long after the fire was contained I found myself up in those forests thinking that they looked so desolate and deserted in parts. A week ago, almost two and a half years later, I was passing through the same area I remembered being eerily still and quiet when I spotted this bald eagle perched among the scorched remains of a former tree. Life is returning to those forests and seems to be supporting those that choose to call them home. Pretty darn cool, nature.

After a whole bunch of research and a tip off from a nice woman on the trail, I finally found some hollows to keep tabs on! Awesome morning watching this little one catch some shut eye in the early morning sun. Absolutely amazed by the camouflage, I've never seen one in person. Everything was so calm and peaceful until a couple of blue jays decided to haze this poor little thing back inside to take shelter.

Some close-up fun with a very tolerant Northern Leopard Frog. Loving my new 7Artisans 60mm macro - an awesomely sharp and well-built lens for short money if you don't mind manual focus!
