Friends of Mt. Arab

Friends of Mt. Arab Mount Arab has been a very popular and accessible hiking destination for generations because of the spectacular views from the fire tower.

You can view Tupper Lake and Mount Morris to the southeast, the Adirondack High Peaks to the east, the Racquette River valley to the north, Horseshoe Lake Wild Forest to the southwest, and Mt. Arab Lake and Eagle Crag Lake (both private and inaccessible to the public) to the west. In addition to the beautiful views, Mount Arab offers an educational opportunity. Along the .9 mile hike to the summit

is an Interpretive Trail with educational stations and station markings that help visitors to learn about both the history of Mt. Arab and the natural environment along the trail. Summit Stewards staff the mountain summit throughout the summer months, offering additional information to visitors. The Summit Stewards also have opportunities at the summit for visitors to learn about dragonflies and hummingbirds through both demonstrations and interactive activities. The Friends of Mount Arab enhances the Mt. Arab summit and surrounding areas through generous donations from visitors to the mountain. Please consider making a donation to FOMA so that we may continue to provide educational activities as well as repair and maintain the Fire Tower, Observer's Cabin, trail, and summit grounds.

A few winters ago……..on the trail and Mt Arab summit.
If you plan to do a winter climb be especially careful and well prepared. Avoid climbing in inclement weather.
Also, avoid solo expedition hiking.
Boots with spikes are useful in icy conditions.
Climb early in the day.
People have occasionally become lost in new snowfall conditions. Stay acutely aware of trail markers on your ascent & descent.
