Last night was exactly what the doctor ordered. šŸ’•

I’ve been feeling a little… blah lately. Anxious, tired, working too much, thinking about a million things at once. You know those seasons where you’re doing all the things, but somehow still feel like you need to hit the reset button?

And then last night I got to spend the evening at the for Cocktails & Culture, helping my dearest friend sell all her pretty little things from .

And somehow, in the middle of being tired and overwhelmed, I found myself having SO much fun.

I got dressed. I got out of the house. I did something different. I got to support a friend and watch her do something she’s passionate about. I talked to people I didn’t know, laughed, wandered around, took pictures, and just existed outside of my normal routine for a few hours.

I think sometimes we forget that two things can be true at the same time.

You can be tired and still have a really good night.
You can feel overwhelmed and still say yes to something new.
You can be deep in your own season and still show up for somebody else’s dream.
You can not have everything figured out and still be having a pretty damn good time.

Maybe that’s the reset I needed.

Not another productive morning. Not another thing to check off the list.

Just getting out. Being around good people. Supporting a friend. Doing something different. Letting myself be a little more present and a little less in my own head.

So here’s your reminder from me: go do the thing. Go support your people. Go somewhere you’ve never been. And say yes just because it sounds fun. šŸ’•

There is something magical about getting a few women around one table.

No agendas. No competition. No show to put on. Just good food, honest conversations, and room to talk about the things we’re building, both in business and in life.

Last night reminded me that community isn’t something you simply find. It’s something you have to work at. It’s something you have to make happen. Whether you create it or muster up the courage to join it, either way, it takes intention.

And I am so grateful for every woman who showed up last night and chose to make that effort.

This is exactly why I will always build and be part of a community. Because it’s never just me trying to find a seat at the table. We all want a table to sit at. A place where conversations are full of encouragement, curiosity, support, and genuine celebration for one another.

So here’s to building tables, businesses, and friendships, and making sure no one has to build any of it alone. šŸ¤

Also, peep my super freaking cute bracelet from the talented Oaklea over at . It has Matt's, Jo's and my birthstones! 🄹

It’s funny how all this started.

Photography. Many moons ago.

Now I’m over here talking about flashing, shingles, and standing seams… oh my. šŸ˜‚ You get the picture.

But the mission hasn’t ever changed.

I’ve always wanted to build a life I don’t feel like I need to escape from.

A life with community.
A business I’m proud of.
A family that’s happy and thriving.

The funny part is… how I build that changes all the time.

Some days it’s a roof.
Some days it’s a garden.
Some days it’s hosting friends around the table.
Some days it’s behind a camera.

But at the end of the day, I’m just trying to build a good life. A life that feels like me.

When you’re rained in and all your projects get pushed back… you tackle your own house projects. šŸ˜‚šŸ™ˆ

Renovating an older home isn’t always glamorous. Especially when you’re trying to preserve its character, stay on budget, and work around some… let’s just say ā€œcreativeā€ choices from previous owners. šŸ˜…

This kitchen has been a labor of love. I think this is the third time I’ve painted it since we bought our house almost two years ago.

But that’s part of the process when you’re choosing to work with what you have instead of tearing everything out. You learn how your family actually lives in the space. You figure out what works, what doesn’t, and make thoughtful improvements along the way.

The open shelves are a little quirky, the tile countertops definitely show their age, and the cabinet doors aren’t the modern flat-front style everyone seems to love. For a long time, the whole space just felt tired.

Our goal wasn’t to gut the kitchen. It was to breathe new life into it. To create a space that feels clean, functional, and inviting. Somewhere I genuinely enjoy cooking, gathering, and making memories with my family.

At DC1, that’s something we believe in. Not every project needs to start from scratch. Sometimes the best renovations are the ones that honor a home’s character while making it work beautifully for the people living there.

So… here she is. 🄰

For a while, comparison got the best of me.

But here’s what I’ve learned…

There will always be someone else who does what you do.

But there is only one person who can do it the way you do.

Your story. Your personality. Your heart. That’s what people connect with.

This rainy morning, I’m sitting here with a cup of coffee, feeling grateful for this cozy little house and grateful I didn’t buy into the idea that I needed to be anyone other than myself.

Be yourself.
That’s the one thing no one else can ever be. šŸ¤

Yesterday was the Bandera County Home Tour, and once again, it reminded me why I never like to miss it.

Sure, the homes are beautiful. But that’s not really why I go.

I go because every tour I’m reminded that we’re all just out here trying to build a life in our own way.

Some people are building businesses.
Some are building homes.
Some are building friendships.
Some are building a community where everyone wins.

And somehow, in a room full of people who could easily see each other as competition, the conversation is always, ā€œHow can I help?ā€

That’s the kind of community I’m drawn to.

If I’m being honest, this season has stretched me. Some opportunities we’ve counted on haven’t worked out. Others have shown up completely out of nowhere. It’s a good reminder that there really isn’t a perfect formula, you just keep showing up, keep learning, and keep adjusting.

I've really been trying to make more room for the things that matter most. Catching up with friends. Planning a small dinner for women building things. Family time and connection. Slowing down and taking time to rest. Hell, I've even been thinking about opening a few photography sessions this fall. šŸ™ˆ

And none of it feels random.

It feels like building a life with intention.

I don’t have it all figured out, but I know that I’d rather spend my life creating meaningful work, surrounding myself with good people, and building something worth sharing than simply checking all the boxes.

Here’s to everyone quietly building a life they’re proud of, one decision at a time. 🫶

One of the biggest reasons we love our small town is because of the people. We absolutely love this little community we live and work in, and it sure feels like they love us right back.

This weekend was full of good food, familiar faces, new friends, fireworks, and watching Jo make memories she’ll probably never forget.

There are still people who believe community is worth building, and they’re doing the work to make it happen. We’re incredibly thankful for every one of them.

If this weekend reminded us of anything, it’s that community is still alive. You just have to choose to be part of it. ā¤ļøšŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø

Here’s to small towns.

To hot summer nights.

To America.

To dancehalls.

To children who still make friends without overthinking it.

To conversations that remind us we’re not as alone as we think.

To the kind of nights that make you wonder why we don’t do this more often.
