As a photographer the two things I love are a good sunset and when families just go with the flow. I get it, you’ve spent money on your session, bought outfits, fought kids to wear said outfits, rushed to get to your session, kids are hungry, maybe they don’t want to cooperate. But the best sessions are when you don’t force things, if your toddler wants to run, let’s run. If your child needs to hit tall grass with a stick before they’ll even considering giving me the time of the day, no problem. We’re going to get way better photos of you playing with your child than trying to force them to do something they don’t feel like doing. And that is where the magic happens ✨
This is my family. It was a school day evening and they just wanted to run around and play. I gave them little prompts and let them be themselves, my husband joined in with their silliness. I photographed him with the kids and he photographed me with them. Then it was time to get family ones. I had my tripod set up but the shutter app wouldn’t connect to my camera. It was getting darker and I was feeling disappointed and beating myself up for not double checking it earlier in the day. We were all there, dressed, ready to go. We did a few with the camera timer and me running back and forth. Then my husband hopped on my phone and found a different app that connected. While he did that I was photographing our kiddos. The app kept disconnecting and I just said well, I’m sure we got something. It was a beautiful, chaotic moment in that field, our kids were in play mode, we were experiencing technical difficulties, but we went with the flow. And I’m so grateful for it because I love these photos. These are us. Not perfect, not just looking and smiling, enjoying our children, rolling by with the punches, loving on them and being silly with them. These are the moments I’ll always remember. 🤎
