There’s something timeless about a freight train cutting through the Montana wilderness.

This BNSF train crossing the Clark Fork River was captured near Peninsula Campground in Sanders County—where rugged landscapes meet the power of American railroads.

Now available as wall art in multiple sizes and finishes including canvas, metal, acrylic, and fine art prints.

Across the wheat country of Judith Basin County, the abandoned grain elevator at Windham still stands against the vast Montana sky.

For generations this was the center of harvest season, when farmers brought their grain in from the surrounding prairie. Today the weathered structure remains as a quiet reminder of Montana’s agricultural heritage.

I photographed this scene while exploring central Montana’s prairie towns—places where history still rises straight out of the landscape.

If you enjoy rural Americana and historic farm structures, you might enjoy seeing this photograph.

There’s something unforgettable about the sound of a freight train echoing through a Montana river valley.

While photographing along the Flathead River in Sanders County, I watched this BNSF freight train led by locomotives 7311 and 8084 round a sweeping curve beside the water. Behind them were automobile carriers filled with new cars arriving from East Asia, bound for dealerships across the West.

Moments like this are why I love photographing the working railroads of the American West.

If you enjoy trains, rail history, or Montana landscapes, you might enjoy seeing this image.

There’s something timeless about quiet Montana mornings.

This photograph was taken behind Ninepipes Lodge near Charlo, where the Mission Mountains, two white tipis, and a pair of ducks created one of those rare moments of perfect stillness. It’s scenes like this that remind me why I love living in and photographing the American West.

If you love Montana, lodge décor, or peaceful landscapes, I invite you to take a look.

🌉 A Bridge Worth Admiring 🌊
Few bridges capture Oregon’s coastal beauty like the Yaquina Bay Bridge—a masterpiece by engineer Conde McCullough. I recently shared my own photograph of this iconic landmark, along with its story and a glimpse behind the lens.

Take a few minutes to read the post, see the image, and maybe discover something new about one of the Pacific Coast’s most graceful structures.

In case you missed it, here's an article I wrote a while back about the seven carousels in Montana which appeared in Distinctly Montana Magazine.

The National Carousel Association publishes an online Index of North American Carousels. That index lists seven carousels in Montana, including merry-go-rounds in Boulder, Butte, Columbia Falls, Helena, Missoula, Shelby and Somers.
