This sweet friend of mine that I have been getting to know has one of THE sweetest daughters! I have never seen her cry and she’s always smiling at everyone. Except for the day I showed up with my camera! So I thought I would share some tips that you can use if this happens to you.
1. Go with the flow! Letting the kids run around, sit in the leaves, or climb on a tree is so important. Making them feel like they have to stand there and smile is hard because kids just aren’t meant to do that.
2. Have patience! This little girl wouldn’t spot crying, so I didn’t have the camera in her face the whole time. I would try to talk with her and have mom and dad play music and sing with her. In those small moments I would raise my camera and snap a photo! So be patient for the specific moment that you are meaning to capture.
3. Be willing to be flexible. I told this mama I would go straight home and edit what photos I had, then show her them. If the photos really didn’t turn out like she wanted then I would totally be willing to try again! So be flexible with your business and allow for those connections with people to be meaningful!
If you have made it all the way through this long caption, props to you! As a teacher in the past I have a love for photographing children and getting to capture their true personalities. It’s a challenge to capture kids and there personalities that I have just met but I LOVE this challenge!! Hope this helps some other photographers out 🤍
