Shooting the kiss from the other side of the bride and groom gives you an entire perspective of the guests. Having a second shooter and a plan helps you provide amazing second views of your day. Planning your wedding? We would love to be considered as your photography team.

There are some photographs that become more than photographs.

Seven years ago, when I opened my first official studio, one of the very first newborns I photographed was this sweet little boy. (top image)

At the time, he was in foster care.

His foster mom told me she wanted newborn portraits because, if he was reunited with his birth mom, she wanted to make sure she would have beautiful photographs of her baby.

I never forgot that.

But God had another story to write.

She became his forever mom.

The photographs she had taken for someone else became the newborn portraits of her own son.

I loved that image so much that I printed it on canvas, and for the last seven years he's hung on the wall in every studio I've worked from. He's watched thousands of families walk through my doors.

Today, we photographed the very first session in our new Springfield studio.

Another little boy.

Another newborn.

As I edited his gallery tonight (bottom image)—completely exhausted from moving boxes, unpacking props, and trying to make this new place feel like home—I realized what I needed to do.

He's going on the wall too.

Not to replace the first little guy.

To stand beside him.

One welcomed families into the first chapter of this studio journey.

The other will welcome them into the next.

And somehow, that feels exactly right.

Maybe that's what I love most about photography.

Sometimes you think you're preserving a moment.

Years later, you realize you've been preserving a story all along.

More importantly ... these two ... well, they are a part of MY story.

Welcome to Sunday! Normally we are off on Sundays but today doesn’t fall into normal. We will be shooting today (after and in the middle of the remnants of our two day moving sale so sorry the place is a bit of a wreck), trying to coordinate more moving activities (so thankful for all those folks who are helping us because this has become such a huge job) and prepping for our first newborn session in the new space tomorrow.

Please be patient with us for the next two weeks. This came quite literally out of nowhere but the space was too amazing to let pass by. Trying to pare down 20 years of studio collections has been overwhelming in a lot of ways: both physically and emotionally.

I’m not going to lie. We are tired. This week we also leave for five days for The Maternity and Newborn Summit in Texas. While
We are SUPER EXCITED for more education and ideas we also know the timing is … less than perfect. However we will return better and that’s always the goal.

Please bear with us on your galleries. I do try to work on a few each day as I can but today and tomorrow are out for that.

I hope you are creating some amazing memories with your family this weekend and this summer.

We have some new, fun ideas planned after we open and can’t wait to share it all with you!!

Maria and Gracie.
