What to Wear for Your Fall Family Session

I usually send out a general wardrobe guide with tips that apply to most locations, but the redwoods can be a bit trickier than the rest!

This family completely nailed it, though.

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

Go for bright colors: You will be surrounded by a filtered, lower-light forest canopy, so wearing neutrals bright tones helps you pop against the rich, moody greens and browns.

Go for comfortable footwear: Skip the heels! The terrain is uneven, so wear shoes that allow you to move comfortably, run around, and have fun with your kids. ( like boots or flats)

Bring layers for changing temperatures: Redwood forests tend to be noticeably cooler and damper than open areas, so bring a jacket or sweater you can easily slip on if it gets chilly.

Redwoods are available for weekday sessions in October and for weekends in November, grab your spot!

So many sweet details in this session. That is what I love most about newborn photography, i don’t believe in cookie-cutter sessions.
I want to capture your story, your meaningful items, and the unique warmth of your home.

For this session, she wore a gorgeous birthstone bracelet that was filled with so much personal significance.

I also always love to capture a few breastfeeding moments.
They never disappoint, that still, quiet moment where everything slows down, and baby can relax, eat, and just be close.

These are just a few reasons why newborn sessions hold such a special place in my heart.

They’re only this little once… cliché, but god, is it true.

I’ve been photographing families for years now, and the best part is getting to watch some of you year after year. With all these back-to-school posts filling my feed right now, I’m not just getting emotional about my own kid growing up—I’m getting emotional watching yours, too.

Looking back, how many of these kids did I first shoot when they were still in the belly? How many of them did I watch take their very first steps, or feel grass and sand between their toes for the absolute first time?

I’m just so damn thankful that I get to be a small part of this, watching your kids grow up so happy and free.

My daughter is almost nine now, but I still find myself flipping through photos of her as a newborn, or from when I was pregnant, instantly reliving every single emotion.

This is what you get when you trust me.

Over my many years as a family photographer, I’ve noticed that when you trust the process and lean into what I’m guiding you to do during our session (even when I have you staring into your partner’s eyes for a couple of minutes until you both start laughing because it feels a little awkward ) your gallery ends up looking so much more like you.

You almost didn’t booked this session for Mother’s Day, but YOU DID!

When they contact me, they ask me if it was okay to have aunt and grandma join the Mother’s Day minis, it was an immediate yes!

And while we were doing the session, I kept thinking how important this photos are going to be in the future for her.
