I trace the earth’s quiet stories in light and shadow, capturing nature’s whispers frame by frame."

I don't live around any large bodies of water, so I am not very skilled at identifying water birds. I learned a lot last weekend about seagulls. The ring billed gull is the most common, I have seen them before, but I didn't realize the young gulls were gray or spotted gray. All of these photos are of ring billed gulls of different ages.

Indian Dunes National Park had been on my bucket list for awhile now, this last weekend I was able to check it off. And it was everything I imagined it would be! Three days there was not enough, I will be going back. The dunes set on the shore of Lake Michigan and it is breathtaking. I will be posting photos from there over the next few days. I wanted to start with this. Baby killdeer on Miller Beach. They were adorable!

I was fortunate enough to stumble upon these beauties one day last week. I didn't post the pictures right away because they were taken in low light and I couldn't get them edited to look right. My sister Leah Chamberlin is a talented photographer and skilled at editing, she transformed them into these masterpieces.

We have been blessed by a charm of goldfinches in our backyard (charm is the term for a flock of goldfinches). Goldfinches are almost strictly vegetarians, they eat thistle and sunflower seed. They stay in Ohio year round, but you may not notice them in the winter because they fade to a dull brown and then they slowly turn back to bright yellow in the spring.

Pardon me, but I forgot to get dressed before going out!
This juvenile cardinal looks nearly naked without the signature red plumage. You can tell this is a juvenile because his/her beak is black and just starting to turn orange. He/she is losing its baby feathers and will soon have its beautiful red outfit.

My backyard is blessed with the presence of a red headed woodpecker right now. I have been trying to get a photo of him for a while now and finally today he was willing to pose for me. He is just so handsome!

A vision of elegance and purity, when a jewelwing flutters by it brings an air of magic with it. They are my favorite thing to photograph next to birds. You can find them where there is clean flowing water. If you have never seen one in person you really need to be on a search for one so you can see what I mean about them, they are the closest thing to fairies that you will ever see.
