I applied for the Mackinac Island Artist Residency and I am crossing my fingers I get chosen! I spent hours looing through photos and these are the 5 I submitted. I see myself there for 2 weeks capturing the beauty with reciprocity, a gift I bring to the photography world.

The waterfall pictures were taken at Hocking Hills on a trip in the winter a few years ago. I had a bad week with my ex and decided to take a trip on a Tuesday solo. I drove the 6 hours alone and when I got to my 3 bedroom cabin with a hot tub I cried my eyes out. I felt so sorry for myself.

But then I realized I had to get up and get into nature! I put on my boots and headed to the trail.

I spent 2 days wading through water to get these shots and I felt more alive than ever. I had never captured long exposure waterfalls before so it was that week that I taught myself. I was overcome with how fun it was and how beautiful the pictures turned out.

The picture of the dew drop was taken on a fall day in my side yard with a flashlight and my old canon camera with a super cheap magnifying glass attached to it.

Microphotography is a trip in itself.

You can be walking along a boring brown trail and see nothing. But if you stop in any given spot and zoom in, you will be immersed in a symphony of beauty. I have spent hours in one spot photographing something beautiful no one would even look at. It reminds me that there is magic everywhere.

The photo of the bug friend was taken in the woods behind Erdman Road. Erdman Road is a party spot and most people don't go passed the boat launch.

But if you take the trails to the back, there are so many things to see along the river. This particular picture was taken in the spring when the violets just begin to come out.

Lastly, the final photo I chose was a photo I took on Tantalus Round Top Drive, is a historic, winding road in Honolulu on Oahu that leads up to views of Waikiki, Diamond Head, and the entire city skyline. I have never driven a switchback like that, and it is one of the most scenic and special places I've ever been.

In all 5 of these pictures I remember feeling the gifts that those moments gave me. Moments that are photographed are sacred - it is a gift to be permitted to capture beauty. It is only a hope that I can covey to you what it feels like to be gifted a frozen moment in time.

I found my first camera ever, a red see-through
1998 Polaroid I-Zone! After storing it for some time, she inspired me to get her out and get a mini lil photoshoot.

Age 8, this camera, the beginning of me expressing myself through photography, and me now, 35 just getting the hang of who's behind the lens.

Photography has always been a wordless way to share what's inside of me FOR me. It's art, it's expression, an outlet, and truly in all moments just plain f***in' fun 🙌

So here I am with my I-Zone camera in my easiest character of fun and my favorite kind of look.

THIS SHOOT MADE ME UGLY CRY!

This is my cousin's friend's daughter, Jasmine. I don't see her much except when my cousins' kids have a birthday party. But each year we meet up at Pizza Hut I watch her grow.

It's been a while since I saw her last, and when I was asked to do her photos, I never thought I'd be so emotional.

This is more of my "Why".

Each October, I host my annual Witchy Photo Shoot, and I'm leaving a few spots open during and after the holiday due to interest.
