A lifelong fan of photography, Samm has expanded her professional career since starting SAMM Photography in 2010. She uses a mix of Fuji and Canon professional cameras and pro-level lenses to provide you with the highest quality images. In her preparation of digital image files, she relies on color-calibrated monitors to ensure your images have rich, natural colors. After moving to the area 9 year

s ago from Down East Maine, Samm continued to work on several fine art photography projects. Having hiked and grown up in some of the most beautiful parts of Maine, it is not surprising that Samm developed a love of landscape and seascape photography. Along with running a high-energy photography business, Samm has worked as a lead custom framing specialist, and has held many board positions at the Portland Camera Club (Portland, Maine), including Vice President and Member at Large. Having been a self-taught photographer most of her life, Samm recently decided to expand her knowledge and pursue a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Digital Photography. If all of that was not enough, Samm is now able to share her love of photography with her own family. Brady, an up and coming 17-year-old photographer in his own right, shares her love of photography. Brady has placed 1st and 2nd place in multiple years at the Maine Photography Shows held at the BRAF gallery in Boothbay Harbor. Samm, Brady, her husband Ben and their charming Golden Retriever Sophie are always planning weekend adventures, which have led to some of Samm and Brady’s best work. www.ETSY.com/shop/SAMMphotography

Brady’s photography talents flourished at a young age. His first camera was a Canon T-2i. More frequently, you can find him shooting with his Canon 60D or his iPhone 12 because he feels it has a great camera and it’s always with him. Brady has also been an active member of the Portland Camera Club since 2017, holding positions of Digital Score Keeper for print and digital competitions. With the skills he has learned at club, he can shoot anything that catches his eye, but is mostly drawn to nature and animal photography. I don’t post here often, but this moment felt too special not to share.

Recently, I got one of those reminders about how small and connected the world really is.

A customer purchased one of my photographs — an image of the original, now‑dismantled Old Town Canoe building. It’s a popular print locally, but not something most people “from away” would recognize unless they had a personal tie to the place.

Her name stopped me in my tracks. It was the same name as the daughter of a family friend we lost in 2019. I didn’t know her well — she was in her late teens or early twenties when our paths crossed — but the combination of her name and this very specific photo felt like more than coincidence.

Normally, I include a handwritten note with a few facts about the print. This time, I followed a hunch and wrote from the heart:

“Laura,
If my suspicion is correct, your mom was one of my favorite people.
And I know she would want me to send you so much love.
Hope all is well and you love your little piece of home.
Lots of love,
Samm”

I left just enough of a hint for her to recognize the connection if it really was her. And honestly, I figured she might think I was a little crazy.

But she didn’t.

She reached out, grateful for the photo and the message — and she confirmed she was the Laura I remembered.

It was a small exchange, but it meant a lot. A reminder that grief, memory, and place have a way of weaving us back together when we least expect it.
