what a privilege it is

to be celebrating my 12th mother’s day
to know her
really know her
to be loved by her
to love her
to laugh with her
to watch her grow
and stretch
and learn
to be challenged by her
to have her push against me
and then ask me to scratch her back at night
to be her safe place

is the greatest gift of my life.

in-home sessions will always have my heart… but they’re not the right fit for everyone in every season.

you can still have that cozy, connected, lifestyle feel without hosting a session in your space.
studio sessions like this are simple, light-filled, and take a lot of the pressure off.

if you’re local to the pnw, you probably know… the summers here are well worth the months of rain ☀️

there’s no shortage of beautiful locations, whether you want to frolic through grassy fields, run barefoot on the beach, let your kids skip rocks in the river, explore the mountains, or stay cozy in your own backyard… the sun is (almost) guaranteed to show up for us.

if you’re thinking about summer photos and have a vision in mind, here are a few things to consider:

• if you’re hoping for flowers, aim for june–early july for wildflowers, or august for sunflowers
• for lush green grass, early june is your sweet spot
• dreaming of tall golden grass + glowy light? that’s in late july–august

these photos are some of my most cherished possessions.

as a mom (and especially as a single mom), no one is taking photos of me with my daughter.

so i gift them to myself each year.

because this is us, and i want to remember us at every stage.

of course i have hundreds of snapshots and selfies, and i love those too.

but there’s something special and intentional about having professional photos taken. choosing what to wear, trusting someone else’s vision behind the camera, making a day of it.

it feels like sending a love note to our future selves saying: this matters 💕

these moments don’t wait for life to be perfect.

your space doesn’t need to be magazine-ready
your toddler doesn’t have to participate the whole time (she didn’t)
your dog can show me all his favorite toys (he did)
contractors can be drilling in the next room (they were)

because real life keeps going
and in the middle of it, there’s a brand new baby

and a big sister helping with buttons, wanting to feed him, figuring out how to share the attention with her new baby brother and where she fits in now

there’s exhausted parents who may be wishing they were taking naps instead of doing photos

but they also know it won’t be like this for long

and this part? it’s worth documenting.
