Standing quietly beneath the mountains. 🇮🇸

Búðakirkja has stood on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula for generations, surrounded by an old cemetery and the vast landscape of West Iceland.

What caught me wasn’t only the little black church, but everything surrounding it, the golden winter grass, scattered snow, weathered gravestones and the mountains rising behind it.

A splash of color at the edge of Iceland. 🇮🇸

Standing against the cold winter landscape of West Iceland, Svörtuloft Lighthouse felt impossible to miss. Its warm color caught the low winter light while snow, volcanic rock, and shifting clouds surrounded it.

Sometimes it’s not the grandest landscape that catches your attention it’s the one thing that refuses to blend in.

Standing beside the frozen creek at Svöðufoss, the only movement was the water carving its way beneath shelves of ice while the waterfall stood frozen in time. Some of Iceland’s most memorable moments aren’t the loudest they’re the quiet ones that ask you to simply stop and look.

Some mornings don’t ask for your attention they quietly earn it. As the first light reached Kirkjufell, its reflection rested on the frozen water below, revealing a moment of complete stillness before Iceland woke for the day.

The first light of day touched Kirkjufell while winter still held everything else in silence. Standing in the snow with nothing but the sound of the wind, it was a reminder that some of the most memorable mornings don’t need dramatic skies just the right light at the right moment.

Long before roads and cities, these volcanic rock formations stood beneath the same stars, quietly watching the seasons come and go. On this spring night in Central Oregon, the Milky Way arched overhead, connecting the rugged landscape below with a sky filled with billions of distant suns.
