Ten years ago this week I drove up to Vancouver, Canada for the first two shows of a new U2 tour. I took my camera with me, hoping I’d be able to get it into the show and snap some photos as I’d done on every U2 tour since 2001’s Elevation tour opener in Ft. Lauderdale.
I figured I would probably see 4-5 shows of the tour on the west coast but boy was I mistaken. When I reconnected with the incredible international U2 fandom and saw how much audience interaction we could expect from Bono and the band (pulling fans onstage to dance and play with them) I was immediately hooked.
Four years, three tours and ~30 odd shows later I had done my best to document the friends I made in the general admission fan community and a band that continued to reinvent itself and the live music experience.
Here are a handful of shots from those first two show in Vancouver, May 14th and 15th 2015. If you’re one of the friends I made along the way, thanks so much for being amazing people. Thanks for letting me crash on your couch or putting me up in a hotel room, thanks for driving me to 5am check-ins, hitting up diners together, putting up with my camera in your face, and encouraging me to continue making financially irresponsible decisions. U2 fans are the best and I can’t wait to meet up with you all again on the next tour.
