Pic Potosi

Pic Potosi This page offers pictures, history, activities & writings related to Potosi & the surrounding areas. Hi friends! Thanks for visiting Pic Potosi!

And I hope you WILL pick this page to browse and enjoy the scenery and sights in and around Potosi, Missouri. I love to take pictures, study local history and share about events and activities surrounding our area. Sometimes, I just enjoy writing a little as it relates to life's happenings. Always on this page, I will attempt to keep posts family oriented, often acknowledging that our God is incredible! I stand amazed at artistry and beauty around us, knowing that these things are only a sample of His endless love - graciously shared for our pleasure. He offers good things for us to enjoy, but more importantly, gave the gift of Jesus. Our eternity depends on a very important choice we must make simply to love Him back after He gave His life for us. If you follow here, you will most likely find a thread of the gratitude I carry because of that great gift. I give Him credit for all the things in this life that are good and glorious and it is my great pleasure to share all I can with you! You are always welcome here at Pic Potosi!

Potosi had another beautiful afternoon at the Courthouse Square/Amphitheater today. So many things for kids and families!! Great booths, tents, literature, food, games, bounce houses, toys and more! And EVERYTHING was FREE! There was even a firetruck that kids could sit inside and families could get pictures beside! At the Amphitheater there was music, testimonies and prayers. It was another uniting of hands, hearts and spirits as so many were moved by the presence of God's unity and healing in our community! Thank you to all the individuals, churches and businesses who participated in this gathering!

Don’t miss this! IT IS TONIGHT! The town square will be buzzing again with food, friends, family and fun. I’m guessing there will be some inspirational moments as our town gathers also to remember the God who has us in His hands, regardless of challenges, politics, world or local problems, heartache or health. Let’s gather and ask Him for help and favor for this community. There will be music! Come lift your voice, heart and hands! He is our freedom!!

Another request I have gotten is to post the stories of the tornadoes of Potosi. I will dig further for the latter ones (and we have had a few!), but for now I have found the ones from December, 1967. I had just turned 10 years old when the storm took our town by surprise in the middle of the night.

Even at my young age, I cut these pictures from the newspaper and put them in a scrapbook because it was such an intense memory for me. My good friend, Julia Hunter was killed in that storm as were 2 others with many other injuries and complete devastation in Potosi. We lived on High Street and could hear the freight train sound while I watched out my window and saw a huge oak tree in our back yard bend almost sideways. (That was just before my folks snatched us up to run to the basement!) All around us there was damage like I had never imagined. The stories continue to this day.

Update: A few of these are from 1969. Check the captions - I haves added the years.

Finally found my Brownie troop picture. Virgie Massie & Donna Doughty were the leaders that year. I think this was a visit to the IJ, but I'm not sure.
