A new chapter is growing at Moments by Amy Photography: school photography!

I am currently connecting with local preschools, childcare centers, Montessori programs, and schools that want picture day to feel organized, encouraging, and comfortable for their students. My goal is to create the classic portrait families expect while still allowing each child's real personality to shine through.

Picture day is completely free for the school, and I work with the staff to make the experience as simple as possible.

Fall photos are about so much more than everyone looking at the camera at the same time. They are about the way your child reaches for your hand, the laugh that happens between the posed moments, and the little connections you never want to forget.

I’ve photographed families for years, and one thing I know for sure: there is no single “right” way for family photos to look or feel.

Some moms want that beautiful, timeless portrait of everyone together.
Some want the belly laughs, movement, and little in-between moments.
Some just want someone else to take over the planning and make the whole thing feel EASY. 😂
And some realize their camera roll is full of their kids…but they’re hardly in any of the photos themselves.

You may have noticed me sharing a little more about Little Moments, Big Feelings lately. 🩵

One of my favorite parts of creating these cards was bringing my two worlds together — photography and education.

Instead of illustrations or stock images, each card uses photographs of real children showing real expressions, giving kids something they can actually observe, talk about and connect with.

Yesterday we took a closer look at FRUSTRATED. 💭

A Closer Look at… FRUSTRATED 💭

“Ugh!”

For young children, frustration can show up in a lot of ways — a scrunched face, crossed arms, a louder voice, tears, giving up, or that familiar “I CAN’T DO IT!”

Before children can manage a big feeling, they first need help recognizing and naming it.

Try looking at this card together and asking:

💬 What do you notice about his face and body?

💬 What do you think might have happened?

💬 What does your body feel like when you’re frustrated?

💬 What could help when you’re feeling this way?

There isn’t one “right” answer. The goal is to get children looking, thinking, talking, and connecting the emotion to their own experiences.

That’s what Little Moments, Big Feelings is all about — giving children the words to understand what they’re feeling, one conversation at a time. 🩵
