Day 6 and sadly my final day in MO.

I set out early Monday morning to do a little Iowa excursion. I started out in Ft Madison IA at the Amtrak station. Somehow I beat the morning Amtrak so it was a nice treat seeing them pulling in. I spent about 3 hours total and caught 2 bridge openings, 3 barges, 1 Amtrak, and 7 freight train. So I’d say it was a really good time. Also got to try the new Turnwater bar and grill at the marina. The burger was amazing and the Salmon Rangoon was fantastic.

After lunch I set out to Burlington IA to see the new VRF camera at the Amtrak station and BNSF yard. As soon as I got there I found the Burlington Junction Railway pulling into the yard to begin their work. This was an excellent treat to see them. Also so the locomotive power for the local L-CHI664 local which was a god tier lashup lol featuring a GP60m paired up with 2 Sante Fe dash-8 warbonnets. After I got done chasing the BJRW another local was starting their work in the yard. This was being lead by a single GP50 locomotive BNSF 3188.

Overall I had an amazing experience for my first trip in IA. I got back to LAP just in time for the evening Amtrak and a few more trains before calling it a day

Day 4 in Missouri.

We started out in LAP in the morning for a pretty decent rush hour and also to see the morning Amtrak and the EB UP with and ACe leader.

After the me and a few others decided to take a day trip around North Eastern MO to a few different railroad locations. We started out at the NS yard in Moberly MO and found NS M8E marking up for departure. So we went out to Huntsville MO to catch them.

Next we heard NS 308 getting ready to leave Moberly to head light power to Mexico MO. We ended up chasing them to Mexico. In between we got them on the diamond in Clark MO. While in Mexico MO we saw NS 7018 SD60E sitting in the yard.

Finally on the way back to La Plata we saw a surprise EB manifest on the CPKC line.

Day 3 of the LAP railroad days.

On Saturday we mostly stuck around the Amtrak station to hang out trackside for the gathering. Got a lot of good action with plenty more to come.

However I did venture out around sunrise to bucklin MO to see some trains. Unfortunately the line was pretty dead. But on the way into La Plata I was finally able to see a WB on the BNSF Brookfield sub which was an amazing treat.

Day one of the La Plata Railroad Days Family Reunion complete. A few of us decided to take a little roadtrip out to a few locations on the BNSF Marceline line and ended up with a 14 train run in only a few hours.

We started out at a location called Estate Place in Elmer MO. This is a great location for straight shoots on long trains. Next we headed to a bridge on Crystal Ave just west of Ethel MO. This is a fantastic spot for nose shots on WB traffic. It’s also a great opportunity for EB pictures as they are sinking thru the curves. After that ended back up a the Amtrak station to see everyone arriving for the event. This will be another great year in the books.
