Tapahe Photography An award-winning fine art photographer who has an ability to capture unique images of nature and life — for all to feel. Life is an adventure, live it!

BEHIND THE LENS
During Eugene Tapahe’s first years of life, he and his grandmother lived off the land and practiced the traditional ways of their ancestors — the true balance and harmony of Mother Earth and man. As Tapahe grew in his profession of the graphic arts and design world, he always heard that inner voice telling him that someday he will share another unique gift with others. Later, in hi

s first career choice he became overwhelmed by the influences of the modern world. He made life-changing adjustments to recreate his own balance and harmony in his new environment. Tapahe recently expressed his reverence for his new pursuit in photography, “I have always loved photography, from the first time I picked up the camera. I knew I had a calling for telling stories through my images.” Tapahe has a deep desire to improve his work and displays an ethic that is admirable. It is our hope that you will appreciate his images and the stories they tell as he begins his new journey with a camera.

This is an open invitation to all Jingle Dress dancers in Utah to join Art Heals: The Jingle Dress Project in welcoming Marie Watt with an honor jingle dress dance at the Utah Museum of Fine Art on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 1 pm.
Multimedia artist Marie Watt is a storyteller. As a member of the Seneca Nation with German-Scots roots, her stories blend Native and non-Native traditions; her 2023 Sky Dance Light art installation featured fifteen jingle clouds made from jingles used on jingle dresses.
This event is open to all jingle dress dancers. Dancers should arrive on Saturday, February 21, by noon. A green room will be available for changing, and light refreshments will be provided. All participating dancers will receive compensation and a gift. Please let us know if you can attend. Thank you!

Ceremonial Medicine Dance
We traveled to Minneapolis, Minnesota, this past weekend to attend the medicine jingle dress dance ceremony to bring peace and healing to those affected by the state's occupation and to mourn with the families of Renee Good, Alex Pretti, and the community. Art Heals: The Jingle Dress Project was honored to be part of the medicine circle and to give each jingle dress dancer a red scarf.
It was a 20-degree day, slightly windy and bitterly cold. It reminded me of the Standing Rock camp from ten years ago. Even the sound of the low-flying helicopter overhead was eerily the same. This unsettling feeling was also present at Powderhorn Park, which was situated in the middle of a bowl-like valley, surrounded by steep, icy, snow-covered hills. I remained on high alert for any negative actions.
As I got closer to the stage, I was overwhelmed by the crowd—there seemed to be thousands of people. I quickly felt safer, secure enough to be amid this positive energy, which thawed my spirit.
When the ceremonial dance began, we were instructed not to photograph or record the event. All cameras and video equipment stopped, and the healing process began. Chief Arvol Looking Horse began the prayer; it became silent, with only his words filling the air. Then came the prayer drum song, followed by prayers in the four directions, and finally the offering of to***co to the sacred fire. Great Grandma Mary Lyons, along with her daughters and granddaughters, prepared the circle for the ceremonial dance. I gifted a scarf to each dancer.
The dance was powerful! It was beautiful to see the dancers moving in unison, holding up their scarves to the honor beat, hearing the healing sounds of the jingles, and feeling the harmony of the drumbeat. As I looked in the crowd, I saw people crying, somber, and praying. I looked over at the Good family, who were in the prayer circle, holding and hugging one another. I was in tears. I knew this was the reason we were here, the reason we do what we do— we need to heal, to feel like we're part of something bigger than ourselves— we do this for the people.
Personally, I have been feeling lost, overwhelmed by the world's woes, and hiding myself from the chaos. I needed this quest to find myself, rejuvenate my spirit, regain my confidence, and reestablish my path. There were small miracles along this quick journey to Minneapolis. Just to name one... we had just enough scarves for each dancer, forty scarves for forty dancers. I was also able to hug the Good family and offer my condolences.
(This photo was taken when the ceremony was over, as the dancers left the prayer circle. I want to thank all who made this ceremony possible.)

Minneapolis, Minnesota
This was taken in 2020 during the COVID pandemic. Art Heals: The Jingle Dress project and the Minneapolis native community came together to dance and heal during the pandemic.
I am honored to have been invited back this weekend to help once more, to join Mary Lyons and Arvol Looking Horse in a medicine jingle dress dance ceremony to bring peace and healing to those affected by the state’s occupation and to mourn with the families of Renee Good, Alex Pretti, and the community.
If you’re in the area, I hope you’ll join us in prayer at Powerhorn Park in Minnesota on Saturday, February 7, from 12 to 3 pm. If you can’t be there, we encourage you to stand in ceremonial unity within your homelands.

Art Heals: The Jingle Dress Project stands in unity with our relatives in Minneapolis. We are proud to help our great grandmother Mary Lyons during this time to bring healing and peace.
I share her ceremony, her words, and hope you can make it:
The Medicine Jingle Dress Dance Ceremony will be this Saturday, February 7, 2026 at the Powerhorn Park, in Minneapolis, MN from 12 to 3pm.
This is a PUBLIC CEREMONIAL EVENT and NOT AN ACTION NOR A PROTEST EVENT.
Please come with a good heart and intentions as we stand in prayer during this time. Please join First Peoples of Mni Sota Makoce and the Good family for a public memorial ceremony, mourning Renee Good, Alex Pretti, and all those we have lost during this occupation.
Memorial ceremony will be led by Chief Arvol Looking Horse as we are on Dakota lands we want to honor all people. All Medicine Dress dancers are welcome to participate.
We encourage all who cannot be here to stand in ceremonial unity within your homelands.
