A letter to my Dad
Father’s Day looks a little different this year.
We lost you only a few weeks ago. I never imagined my first Father’s Day without you would come so soon, and I don’t think I’ve ever experienced heartache like this before.
Thank you for teaching me how to truly enjoy life. You taught me to stay positive, to find joy in the little things, to appreciate the finer things in life, and to never stop exploring. You gave me a love of gardening that has somehow grown into a garden bigger than our house, and every time I wander through it, I think of you.
More than anything, you showed me what love looks like. The love you shared with Mom was effortless, genuine, and the kind that made everyone around you believe in forever.
I never took for granted the time we spent together, especially all those bus rides into the city for school and our lunchtime catch-ups. Looking back now, those ordinary moments have become some of my most treasured memories.
You are the reason I love music so deeply. I’ll always remember walking through Liverpool with you as you proudly showed me your hometown, pointing out where the original Cavern Club stood and telling stories of seeing The Beatles and The Rolling Stones before the rest of the world knew who they were. You didn’t just tell stories, you brought history to life.
You patiently helped me with homework when maths and spelling felt impossible. You pushed me to work harder, even when I didn’t appreciate it at the time. Looking back, I know every lesson came from a place of love, and I’m grateful for every one of them.
You taught me that manners matter, that treating people with kindness and respect is never optional.
You taught me how to drive, which is probably why I still have a bit of a lead foot.
You were a walking encyclopedia, somehow knowing the answer to every random question imaginable. Your knowledge of history amazed me, and I loved listening to you tell stories that could transport us to another place and time.
I’ll forever remember your joyful laugh, your chuckle, and the way it could make everyone around you smile.
And I'll never forget your French toast on weekend mornings. Somehow it always tasted better when you made it.
Dad, you've always encouraged me to seek adventure, create memories, and live every moment to its fullest.
Thank you for being my dad.
I love you more than words can ever say, and I miss you more than I ever thought possible.
I'll look after Mom for you. I promise.
Happy Father's Day 🤍
Love always xo
